Question: Does anyone do kareoke? And if so, what songs are your favorite to sing and why?

I'll go first:

I love "Round Here" because I can SANG it! I usually start out with it to warm up my voice without sounding horrible doing it.

I also love singing "Closer". The later I wait to do it, the better the applause, but there's ALWAYS applause. Something about a chick singing that song makes guys CRAZY! I dunno what...

But seriously, I'm ace at this song on karaoke I even have the dance down to a T.

Karaoke is perhaps the WORST thing to happen to music in the last twenty years. I've been known for walking out of establishments because they had karaoke blaring and stuff.

And it's not even because you've got people who SHOULDN'T be singing doing the karaoke, either- a lot of the establishments that do karaoke USED to have live music (with REAL musicians- I know, because I was a bar-playing musician for a couple of years), which meant that people made their bones performing for a living. When karaoke shambled unto the scene, a bunch of people were suddenly left without a means of eeking out a living.

So I'm not a fan of karaoke in the least.

I've never done karaoke but always wanted to but guess I won't now. Don't want to take someone's livelihood away.

The bars I go to have karaoke on some nights and live music on others. Both are entertainment, so bars do both.

i like to sing but have actually never done karaoke....
have one very nice karaoke moment even though i was not singing....

I sang "Stevie Ray Vaughn's Pride and Joy" and "Blues Brothers - Sweet Home Chicago".....


funny thing about Pride and Joy...there were two guys at the bar who did that song...and one day I'm listening and I go..."I can do that song just as good as them"

And after I sang it, dude goes to my friend..."Guess I'm not singing that any more"

I am halfway with moofooga on this one, I am a musician trying to get out of the construction scene and really push my love for music. Sadly I am guilty of being drunk as a skunk and wind up in a karaoke bar singing Stayin Alive by the Beegees. Ironically my best friend says its great watching me sing it because my voice is naturally deep... until I get enough liquor in my system and that song starts playing.

Snarky babe, I am totally with you on that one. I am willing to share, but what I would really like to see happen is a group who has such a wide cover song list they can be the live music for a karaoke bar...
