New Obama Military Rules of Engagement:, Don’t shoot back
Recently on ABC television news, one of their videos showed a U.S. Marine hunkered down in Afghanistan complaining on camera that he was not allowed to shoot back when under fire. This situation resulted from Obama’s new rules of engagement from his new Afghanistan commander. General McChrystal explained it to BBC news that they are now advising troops to break off from firefights with the Taliban, "If you are in a situation where you are under fire from the enemy... if there is any chance of creating civilian casualties or if you don't know whether you will create civilian casualties, if you can withdraw from that situation without firing, then you must do so” And the U.S. Marines are following the new rules of engagement. This week, Bravo Company of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in Nawa, Afghanistan surprised a bunch of Taliban insurgents who started shooting at the U.S. Marines. The Marines could have wiped out the Taliban insurgents by calling in an air strike which was circling overhead. Instead, they followed the new rules of engagement. The U.S. commander said, "We made the decision to isolate the compound and not destroy it because we couldn't confirm if civilians were inside," The result, one U.S. Marine dead, one wounded, and the Taliban insurgents escaped out the back. http://funzon123.blogspot.com/2009....at.html http://www.captainsjournal.com/2009....anistan http://abcnews.go.com/International/WireStory?id=7983616&page=1 |
