Facebook chooses Prineville for data center

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon has a new friend: Facebook.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski said Thursday the social networking site will place a data center in Prineville, creating more than 200 jobs during the one-year construction period. When finished, the data center will employ at least 35 full-time workers and dozens more part-time and contract employees.

The data center will help store and route information posted by users.

Tom Furlong, Facebook's director of site operations, says the company looked at sites across the West before opting for Central Oregon.
