VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A group of Vancouver friends have spent seven years trying to win the lottery - and Tuesday they finally collected a check for hitting a jackpot worth nearly $2 million, according to a Washington Lottery spokesperson.

The actual pre-tax amount was $1.8 million and Vancouver's Musa Saidy collected on behalf of his buddies at the SW Washington lottery offices.

The guys have been playing for years, according to a Lottery press release, with a tacit understanding that if one of the group won, everybody won, and the pot would be distributed equally.

Luck was with Saidy's cousin, who had picked up the winning ticket at Plaid Pantry, because Saidy was too busy to go down himself.

Saidy didn't believe his cousin the following morning when he called, screaming, "It's a jackpot! You got it!" -- until his cousin started crying on the phone.

Saidy planned to pay off some bills and tuck away the rest of his winnings.

Lottery officials said the Plaid Pantry will receive an $18,000 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.
