From SourceWatch

A neo-conservative (abbreviated as neo-con or neocon) is part of a U.S.
based political movement rooted in liberal Cold War anticommunism and a
backlash to the social liberation movements of the 1960s and 1970s.
These liberals drifted toward conservatism: thus they are new (neo)
conservatives. They favor an aggressive unilateral U.S. foreign policy.
They generally believe that elites protect democracy from mob rule.

something like this?

By the title of this topic I thought it would be about Chavez and his
Venezuelan mafia. Interesting that I found it was not and that instead
it was a commentary on the ol' U.S. of A.

there does seem to be a lot of people on here that fits the definition
for a neocon,,,well kinda you'd haveto take out the con and putlib in
there instead, but the elitist condensending attitude definately fits.
hmmmm well maybe have to think about that a little bit more- anti
communist/socialist, maybe not so much. hahahahappy but read that and
definately thought of you and you and you and you, not you, but you, and
you too.blushing drinker

'Armydoc'

The definition of neocon from "SourceWatch" is probably accurate for a
couple of decades ago: it describes well people like Scoop Jackson and
Arnold Wohlstetter. The neocons have evolved in important ways since
those times, however. Yes, some of them are social or domestic
'liberals', if that label means anything.

But they are much, much more than that today, and it is this evolution
that is particularly worrisome to anybody involved in analyzing and
designing US foreign policy and the well-being and security of the US.

Again, if you run down my past postings on this you will see what the
term neocon refers to today.

I wonder if political labeling even works anymore...most people I know
say they
are independent..and vote both ways when they have the
option..liberal?...
conservative?...in todays world I doubt that it matters much

You are right -- the labels that served 20-30 years ago have long since
become useless. They are relics of now-obsolete political models.

The terms 'Democrats' and 'Republicans' and 'Independants' still have
some use when it comes to discussing Congressional manoeuvers and voting
alliances and committee chairmanships, but that is about it.

The voters who determine the outcome of elections are no longer those
who identify themselves as members of a party, but those who vote for
individuals regardless of which party they are nominated by.

For example, I am registered as a member of a party because it allows me
to vote in the primaries, but this will have nothing to do with my vote
in the general election.

And at the Senate level, for example, Senator Lugar, a leading
Republican and senior Republican foreign policy official yesterday came
out aginst Pres. Bush's Iraq war. He follows in the footsteps of several
other prominent Republicans.

All but a few Congressmen routinely switch 'party-lines' when it comes
to issues.

The 'good' thing about labels is that it gives us the feeling of dealing
with a simpler world. The 'problem' with labels is that the world not in
reality even close to being so simple.

The 'problem' with labels is that the world not in
reality even close to being so simple.- oceans, probably the simplist
yet most profound thing youve said. and, if one were to stop and analyze
it with all the implications that would go with it, you could see that a
lot of the problems in the world today that people just seem to want to
gloss over or blame on one or a couple of individuals doesnt really fit.

to imply that the world isnt in reality so simple means that one would
also have to concede that the problems we find ourselves in is the
responsibilty of us all and not just the few(such as claims about Bush
and Cheney)

labels- have a way of letting people know which side of the 'isle'
people are on (broadly). hmmmm- there is a bigger issue than we are
casually speaking on. so yes labels dont mean crap....
which is the biggest problem- everybody wants to be an individual that
has no ties to anything or anyone, the whole I in team comment inserted
here. its cool what ever is clever.

Stop the dictatorship: Make calls to congress 1-877-851-6437 and / or 1-866-340-9281 spend at least 15 minutes per day on these numbers discuss any of the following: Stop the war, remove the warmongers from government,,get rid of all patriot acts, get rid of war powers act, get pedophiles, sodomites, drug abusers, male prostitutes, out of the white house, redo the 911 investigation, put the 13th Amendment back in the Constitution where it belongs( it was never repealed, so it is still in effect) plus any other topics that need worked on. Hey, we are all in this together, we need to get this mess cleaned. You help clean up some of this trash and I will work on cleaning up some of it and maybe the job will not be too hard on any one person that way. You probably know where there is some trash to work on, I know where some is. I love you all.
