There are barely three weeks to go before voting closes in a global poll to decide on a new list of the seven wonders of the world.

The current seven wonders list was drawn up more than 2,000 years ago. But one world famous building that isn't doing too well in the poll is India's Taj Mahal.

It needs to make it to the top seven to qualify as a new wonder in the poll, organised by The New Seven Wonders Foundation, a privately-funded Switzerland-based organisation.

------------

So, what are, in your opinion, are the 7 wonders of the world.
Mine ..

1) The Statues of Abu Simbel
2) The Easter Island heads
3) The City of Machu Pichu
4) Temple of Ta Prohm, Angkor Wat - Cambodia
5) The Great Wall of China
6) The City of Petra - Jordan
7) Stonehenge

I have been lucky enough to see 1, 4, 6 & I live near 7 ...

Thats a good one ... also the Giants Causeway is a beauty too.

But they are naturally occuring .. thats why I didnt mention the Grand Canyon, Jellystone park and the great barrier reef.

Mother Nature is so much better at building that us, but we are sure trying our best.

I'm just after reading the story how Newgrange was built, the way the shanachies used to tell it. It's amazing.

The Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange was built about 3200 BC. so its 5000 years old!!!

The kidney shaped mound covers an area of over one acre and is surrounded by 97 kerbstones, some of which are richly decorated with megalithic art. The 19 metre long inner passage leads to a cruciform chamber with a corbelled roof. It is estimated that the construction of the Passage Tomb at Newgrange would have taken a work force of 300 at least 20 years

The passage and chamber of Newgrange are illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. A shaft of sunlight shines through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates the passage to light up the chamber. The dramatic event lasts for 17 minutes at dawn from the 19th to the 23rd of December.
