But then maybe it is just all the dementia I have to deal with. Sometimes it reminds me of a good rocket send off between, "Houston, we have a problem." or "T-minus 30 seconds and counting and everything is A-OK".

rofl Ah, the good ole nursing home. I go to the one where my gran works, once every week. I take in sweet treats for the old people. As they recognise me as "Molly's oldest granddaughter". So most of em know me by now. Been doing that since i was 18. I'm allowed to help my gran fold and iron the laundry, too. Then we walk around with a trolley full of clean bedsheets, and put em in a massive cupboard.

Picking and chosing what to say depending on the situation can be tactically advantageous.

Half-truths and ommissions of facts do serve a purpose when properly employed.

Besides, we all know that people can't handle truth when it ain't what they want to hear so, there is no point in wasting time with hard callous truth when a litle bs will get you the results you want.

Is censoring one's self out of respect "lying"?

or

Is censoring one's self in this way "actually" disrespectful?

...especially in these times of mass media and connection?

I see deciding not to say something is a choice that being respectful doesn't demand. To me being respectful of others is more about giving them space to live not necessarily giving them your world if you do not want too.
