An agent with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, shot a colleague Thursday at a federal building in Southern California, local news outlets report.
One person was killed, though ICE would not confirm whether the shooter or the victim died. Multiple media outlets report that the gunman is dead, though it wasn't immediately clear who fired the shot that killed the gunman. The deadly incident came after the gunman clashed with his superior officer, police told the Los Angeles Times. The aggrieved officer opened fire at his supervisor -- and when another agent tried to intervene, more shots were fired. ICE issued a statement Thursday night that confirmed at least two of its agents had been shot at the federal building in Long Beach, but it didn't go as far as to identify the gunman as an agent. "One of the agents died at the scene. The second agent was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition," the statement said. "The names of the agents are not being released pending notification of the next of kin." The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time, ICE said. Local police responded to reports of shots fired on the seventh floor. Police told the Associated Press that agent who survived the shooting was wounded in the stomach. The injured agent was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman told NBC that the agent's vital signs were positive. The Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building is located in downtown Long Beach and houses ICE offices, among other agencies, according to the Los Angeles Times. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/16/at-least-one-reported-dead-in-shooting-at-federal-building-in-southern/?test=latestnews#ixzz1mc6hso8D |
