Waiting


The darkened sky’s shadow
slowly invaded the room
leaving the flickering candle
to struggle against
the impending night

The clock’s hands
had long since stopped
trudging onward
and instead
waited
with her

She placed her hands
against the rain chilled window
and watched the city lights
tattoo the night
hoping
waiting
hurting

The stillness
of everything around her
enveloped the pitter patter
of each drop
fusing her thoughts
with loneliness

She leaned forward
resting her head
against the pulsating tremors
of the reminder
that she was alone
and cried
