Apparently Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agents have been visiting gun shops in Alaska and asking for firearms sales records. This has caused many to wonder if the agency is building a database of gun owners in the state.

Alaska Representative Don Young met with ATF agents and raised his concerns about what he had been hearing in this regard.

“During today’s meeting Deputy Director Brandon assured me that this is not an accepted practice at the ATF and that they are looking to remedy the situation to ensure it, or anything like it, never happens again in the future,” Young said.

ATF Deputy Director Tom Brandon sought to assure Young that, “ATF has never maintained a database of lawful firearms owners; is not permitted by law to create and maintain such a database; and has no intention whatsoever of collecting any information for such a database.”

The Alaska Dispatch reports,

Four owners or managers of gun shops in Alaska were contacted by Alaska Dispatch in late April. Two of those reported that ATF agents had asked for their books, and both turned down the requests. The one shop that went on the record, Great Northern Guns in Anchorage, said the ATF agent asked politely for the books, and when store manager Frank Caiazza refused, the agent just as politely accepted the refusal.

“I told them no. They said, ‘OK, thank you very much,’ and left.” That was in late January or early February, Caiazza said.

It’s unclear why the ATF is asking for the information; if it is investigating individuals, guns stores, or perhaps themselves.

It is illegal for the ATF to remove or copy any material from a gun shop unless it is part of a criminal investigation.

After being caught trafficking guns over the border to Mexican criminals that were then used to kill a border patrol agent, as well as others, you would think they would be a bit more careful in what they are doing. Since they are in Alaska looking for information in gun shops, maybe they are looking for a sequel to “Fast and Furious” in Canada.

Apparently the ATF thinks they're above the law like Obama and Holder.

It's a big lot of country to "get lost" in!

They never have been too fond of DC.

I've never been to Alaska, but I read that you can put three states like Texas in it. I have lived in Texas, it is freakin huge! Took over 16 hours to cross it, and that's at 70 mph!

Being Alaskan, or being Texan.....like being a biker! It's a life style that don't enjoy anyone messing with it!

If Robme wins Texas....you KNOW the vote is rigged!

The power and money may go with Robme, but we'll see about the populace!
