I predict;
States that are financially hard up will start better screening who receives support and demand newcomers live in the state a min. amount of time before they are allowed to apply for entitlements.

California doesn't that I know of. I predict as more cities go bankrupt you will indeed see this.

Being offtopic , the automatic cuts across the board coming if Congress can't work out a deficit reduction plan is probably the best thing happening. Pain will be spread evenly amongst all participants in federal dollars.

I'm already hearing about refugees of bankrupt cities moving to states with more lenient entitlement laws.

that looks like whats going to need to happen,,

we have to increase revenue or increase debt,, or both, thats simple math

so raising taxes and making unilateral cuts would be the ideal temporary solution, but I doubt both sides would ever agree to both sides of that equation,,so we will be stalling for quite a while on progress,,,

indiscriminate handouts such as.....?

Cash!!!....Replace it with services....

Stop food stamp fraud by requiring proper identification, not issuing replacement cards for those lost or stolen....

Stop outsourceing.....

Stop "paying" states for welfare rolls....

Just to name a few...

some good suggestions

but food cards are only replaced in office or at the address on file, so the fraud wouldnt be diminished much from those who are fraudulent enough to allow someone to use their card would certainly still allow them to use it after they received it with 'proper' identification,,,

The problem with that is the uproar over discrimination. Look at the mess just cuz we want to make sure you're a citizen who can legally vote. Sigh.

I dont disagree with the citizenship rules. I just feel the id thing would be a waste as they already streamline those cards to IN person replacement (requiring id) or mail to the Household on file (Because the card is for the household and not just ONE individual)

I'm thinking they will clog the courts even more with lawsuits. Proper ID should be a federal law so there is no ifs, buts and ands about it.

Saying posivitive ID is a waste is just another way for smokers to ensure they can "come up" with $ for cigs & booze...Food stamp fraud can and should be stopped...IMMEDIATELY and by Obama adm...after all, we are in a recession, every dollar counts....

the problem with that is it takes away the ability of a HOUSEHOLD to purchase food and makes it the sole authority of only ONE person in the household

if the cards are being issued , via mail to the household,,there should be no further issue

unless someone is tampering with mail which is a much larger FEDERAL OFFENSE,,,,

What about prisoners fraudulently getting IRS refunds? That seems to be more costly I think, not sure. We should address this as "no refunds in prison."
