True, we get a lot of that oil from Canada and Mexico as well as offshore drilling. Remember, if you are over 30 miles out in the ocean you are in international waters. So it can still be an American company drilling for oil but it has to be imported in because it is not in the US territory.

That is not to say the oil in the Mid East and South American does not affect the price. If they stop producing would not mean the need would go down but other countries would be biding on the oil US, Mexico and Canada produces. If we would withhold grain from those countries that withhold oil, we may have a leverage to get them to produce more.

Still it does not matter how much we pull out the ground if we do not have the refineries to handle the demand and supply that is coming through. Until they build some new refineries to handle the demand, you can see the price drop some. There are a lot of factors that go into the price of gas.

The government is one of the biggest reasons why the price is up. In California for every dollar that is collected, 62 cents is taxes. The government has no incentive to see the prices of gas go down. The higher the taxes the higher the price goes. Government could drop the price of gas by making drilling permits quick and easy, open new refineries, cut the gas tax and even allow new form of energy like natural gas come on the market.

But instead some in government are beating on battery power cars to solve the problem and allowing the price to rise to encourage people to buy their buddies batteries for the electric cars. Even though we are using the same battery technology from a hundred years ago and it didn’t work then. Until they can extend the life of a battery, it will not take off. Right now there is a million dollar reward to who every can double the life of a battery.

The most important place to cut "Wasteful Spending" is by cutting
Congress itself.

My suggestion is that we go to a single Senator per State and limit the
maximum number of members of the House of Representatives to 5 per State
and require that the House could not have more than 150 delegates under any circumstances.

I would still suggest that the States be represented by at least 1 House
member but those states with larger numbers of reps would have to do with
fewer.

That would certainly simplify the negotiations, cut the various spending
interests, eliminate half of the cost of our legislature and their wasteful
initiatives. Also, there would be less campaigning and lobbying cost which
are a significant legislative overhead cost. It has to be a good move.

Let's go for some real legislative reform for a change.
I don't buy the argument that a smaller Congress could not represent
the citizenry well enough.

The Elite profit from high gas and oil prices and I don't think those are going to go down. A good alternative is to work close to home, or work at home. Live where you want to work.

The Elite want to have total control over food production, travel, education of your children, energy, the media, money and commerce.

The alternative is to be as self sufficient as possible and get out of debt. Start learning to trade and barter and cut the government out of getting a slice of your pie as much as possible.

Cutting the number in office will only give more power to only a few people. Now term limits are a better idea, and let each states decide what the paycheck for their representatives should be instead of letting Congress decide their own paycheck. Also they should be switched to a part time congress, where they would have to get a real job and only spend a few weeks in DC.
