Topic: crazy lady down the street...

okay, so...my kids get all of an hour after school to themselves, and they have a habit of dropping their binders on the front porch, yelling hi, and heading across the street to play football. i can literally see them out my window...

school just started this week, and caitlyn has all new nice school supplies. an expensive binder with all the cute little notebooks, folders, separators, tools, pens, pencils, a planner...one of the neighbor kids, who has said he has NO supplies...took it! as i went running after, he dropped the book covers on the ground...and they are the strange ones that my daughter had.

gah, so...caitlyn and jordan, and the three neighbor kids that witnessed the event yesterday...went down to this kid's house today to try and get her stuff back. her homework was in there, and was past due. i have extra supplies...and i'm willing to give them to this child if he has nothing, but don't STEAL my baby's stuff!

anyhow, upon getting there...the mother started screaming and yelling, throwing racial slurs at my girls' friends...and saying she was going to beat them all with a switch. she tapped my nine-year-old on the head repeatedly to make her point (it didn't hurt her, just scared her...six foot switch!)...said she wasn't afraid of jail...and that we weren't getting a THING from her kid!

this woman cursed out my babies, told my girls that they could follow her son to his class tomorrow if they felt like it...but if it's in her home, they weren't getting a thing. i don't exactly have much in this world...and my caitlyn bought all her supplies HERSELF!

i told my kids to forget the stuff. that if they are so hard up they have to steal from kids...then maybe they need it more than we do. we DO have extra...just not the cute stuff. i explained to the neighbor kids, that were angry that my girls didn't yell back, that we don't become like these people. i tried to get them to understand that maybe this woman was defensive because of the fact that she CAN'T afford the stuff...and that being defensive might have set her off a bit.

i've forbade my girls from going down that direction...but my girl is VERY upset at the loss of stuff that SHE earned...

should i handle this differently? should i go to the landlord and explain? should i try harder to replace the lost stuff?

Im not sure that there is really anything that you could do to get the stuff back. Although you may have to explain to your daughters teacher about the homework. I cant believe that the mother would let her son get away with stealing like that...especially sinse he was seen doing it.grumble

man, she's a real nut-case. was yelling about how she's not afraid of prison, that she's been there before...

i'm thinking i'll just let them keep the stuff...even though my daughter bought it all for herself. i mean, if they need it THAT badly...

not to mention, i try and teach the girls to walk off if the cause isn't important. and notebooks...well...rate low on that scale.

Well 1 thing i would do is,if she's going to threaten to use a switch on your kids, well give the same back.let her know if her kids step one foot in your yard, you're coming after them!.that's just me though,i've always believed in "an eye for an eye".

Your poor gurls... I'm Sorry lulu, I would say Talk to the teacher & tell her what's up..
I know in our area we have a thing where we give stuff for the kids that don't have & they get a ton of stuff..
Even the Walmarts here have a been to give stuff for the kids & the police dept. even takes kids to buy shoes & clothes.
Hopefully the school can talk to him. stay away from the mom.

Unless you feel brave put the stuff together to give him & go down as a group. cuz does he really want gurlie things??

i don't believe in violence. ever. i've taught my kids the same...they are NOT allowed to fight, and must walk off. they all know some martial arts and self-defense, in case that's just not feasible.

her kid is only in third grade...and he's NOT a bad kid. part of me wants to go over there, but i'm afraid it will only make the situation worse on HIM! i mean...if she's acting this way in public, what's she doing in the privacy of her own home?

connorsmom1, they were quite upset! my girls, plus five others that had been there...were all freaked and loud and talking all over each other, trying to get the story out.

and yeah, catchme...they ARE pretty girlie. she bought all the stuff with money she earned from her sister this summer...and it's all nice stuff. pink. purple...bratz. that kind of thing. i have quite a bit of the cheapie notebooks and such that are dark neutral colors, and i'd be happy to switch...

i can't just replace the stuff. the kid spent 150 bucks on it all...and i just can't afford that much. she had the nice binder with a filing system, all the separators and notebooks, and a planner...plus pencils, pens, tools...all that good stuff.

i've written a letter to the school, explaining. she told her teachers today, and was given an extension on the homework...hopefully, this won't affect her too much.

it's GOT to be depressing to be eleven, and lose 150 bucks worth of stuff.

i'm sorry to hear my dear sister. I'm sorry for the pain of my little niece.
I think that your attitutde is the best, after all poor people who knows what situation they are passing by.
what i don't like is that woman tapped my little niece, i would not agree with that.

i had a run-in with her husband last year...he was furious that my children refused to, get this, GET IN HIS TRUCK and accept a ride to the bus stop. as if.

yes, miguel...that had me FUMING...that she would tap MY kid on the head. it didn't hurt, but scared the hell out of her. it COULD have caused intense pain...as jordan has some pretty serious sensory issues.

the mother suggested that my children check his classroom at school...i'm not sure i want them to bother.

i don't believe in kicking asses, but even if i did...i'm a registered black-belt, and would get in FAR more trouble than she would.

told the girls they aren't allowed to head that direction...and that they have to avoid that house.

if she messes with the girls at the bus stop, i WILL call the cops.

good gosh i would have drove to the police station tell them what happed . if she does have homework in it. it should have her name on it. but who knows if you ask. they may tell you it's your word vs her word. if so see if you can get a police escort go to her house and ask again -she may sing a different tune or might not. this may put a good example for your kids you handled a somewhat hostel situation. also if she does do something to you again you have prior problem with her with recored dates. not a bad idea to let officials know that there a problem it may help or not

first thought in my mind after reading this
