Thurs. June 26th, 2014 - 1:30 PM, Ireland time. Ol' Neddy's Recovery
Well, I attended Ol' Neddy's swollen ankle this morning and the very good news is - since his last soak a few days ago, ol' Neddy's coming along fine now. I visited and walked over to his stall where he stood and called him over. He remembered my voice and came out and walked over to me. The first thing I noticed was he was actually now walking on his rear left hoof, although still burdened by some obvious soreness. I petted him and talked to him calling him " A Good Boy ", saying, " You're a good boy, Neddy " and he did react to my words nudging me and, of course, nipping at me. Yep, ol' Neddy was doin' alright. So, I also noticed ol' Neddy's ankle had gone down to half it's original swollen size meaning he was healing. I was worried waiting to get over there and visit him again, but it turns out my worries were uncalled for.
As of this date and time ( indicated above, ) Neddy should only require a couple more soaks. His marked sensitivity was in the 'frog' area of the bottom underside of his rear left hoof. This sensitivity still remains as - after his 'soak' this morning, he did try to kick me again, but my face was way away from his hoof, so he missed the couple of times he tried. I warned him calling out, " Cut it out, Neddy! " So anyway, after we concluded his soak we poured honey inside his 'frog' area and rubbed it into his foot's palm area and then, threw a sock over his foot and then a plastic grocery type smaller bag over it, and, then taped it tightly shut.
It was funny watching ol' Neddy take off across the field after we took his harness off. He definitely did Not like his new footwear. Anyway, he's been at it playing the fool. He's since been walking around the grounds and at one point heard our voices talking and, made his way over to the gate where we stood talking and tried to nudge his way through the partially open gate. The owner said, " Oh no, Neddy, now you get back in there " at which time Neddy turned and re-entered his grounds as if he knew he was being chastised. What a character!
So, please let this be your update - to those interested in ol' Neddy. He's full of whizz and vinegar now. He'll be fine - as the crow flies.

Good to hear Ol'Neddy is getting around much better. Sounds like everyone is pleased to see the improvement. At seven Neddy is still a young donkey and good feet is important.

I will assume Neddy's owner is an older gentleman since he had to ask for help.

good read! drinker

Akita, thanks for your important input. Yes, Neddy's owner is an elderly gent. He feeds carrots and other snacks to Neddy every day. Tell you how this happens, off and on all day, apparently ol' Neddy will leave his stall and wander over to the cottage back door. He won't nudge it, or bump the door to alert, rather he just stands there patiently and waits for his owner to look out the window. The owner knows this habit and continually checks out the window for Neddy. Once he sees him the owner gets out the goodies and opens the door and gives him a snack. What a character, this Neddy boy. Yep, ol' Neddy is apparently well looked after. When he stood at the gate recently he was funny to watch as he noticed the gate was slightly open and stood there for a moment and then nudged it open and began to walk through it. What a con artist. And the owner saw this and commented, " No, Neddy, now you get back inside there. " And just like a favorite puppy, ol' Neddy turned right around and creeped back inside the gate. He had that, " Ok Papa, I'm going back in " demeanor about him. That sad strut.

Neddy's a favorite of mine and as soon as I secure my thatched cottage somewhere here on the island, I plan on having my own version of Neddy.

Thanks, Akita, you allow for fond remembrances.

Been awhile. I'm not online as much as I'd like to keep up and let y'all know I think of ye. A fine art writing your life, baring your heart as some would say. Ye have a way of reaching into those easily forgotten recesses. Thank ye kindly for the sweet air into my day...s
