3rd suspect ID'd in Texas 'Draw Mohammad' shooting
![]() The FBI says Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem was the man who got the guns used in the garland shooting -- and helped train the shooters Federal investigators have arrested a third suspect in the shooting attack on a "Draw the Prophet" contest in Garland, Texas in May. A federal grand jury indicted Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem, who also goes by the name Decarus Thomas, on conspiracy and weapons charges, as well as lying to federal investigators. The indictment alleges Kareem supplied the shooters, Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi, with the guns they used in the attack. Prosecutors allege Kareem took Soofi and Simpson out to the desert to practice shooting, then gave them assault rifles. According to court documents, Kareem met with Soofi and Simpson at his home in Phoenix, where they discussed the "Draw the Prophet" contest being held in Garland. Prosecutors also accuse Kareem of talking to Soofi and Simpson about the plan to attack the contest. Two days later, the indictment alleges, FBI agents met with Kareem. He apparently told them he did not know about the plan and he denied knowing Simpson and Soofi. The indictment does not spell out where the guns came from or where Kareem was during the attacks. It also says nothing about any potential ties to terrorism or ISIS. Kareem is expected to appear in federal court Tuesday afternoon. |
