We are

We are sons and daughters and fathers and mothers,
We are the sum of our relationships
and our legacy is defined by our impact on others,

We are the link in a chain of events that determine the fate of those we touch
We are the ones who live and die by apathy or having given so much

We are the names that brandish buildings, cures and hospital wings
We are a distant memory of a former lover musing over fond remembering’s

We are the result of the accomplishments of those we have passed on our wisdom
We are the pain, fear and anguish that made a child grow so cold and numb

Of all the things we are, we are someone to another
And for those that learn this lesson, life is theirs to
