Calling All Marylanders:

Maryland's 4th consecutive black bear hunt will begin this Mon., Oct 22 unles Gov. O'Malley steps in and stops it as he has the authority to do. This hunt is both inhumane and unnecessary. Maryland's bear population is estimated at only about 400 bears, this a recovery from near extinction in the 50's. There are very few human/bear conflicts and most of those are caused humans being careless with their garbage and their bird feeders. A random hunt will do nothing to deal with the occasional problem bear.

Please take a minute to call the governor's office and tell him that you want the hunt stopped. The number is:

800-811-8336
or
410-974-3901

There is also a rally/protest at the governor's mansion in Annapolis on Sun. at 1130am. For details, see:

https://community.hsus.org/campaign/MD_2007_bears2

You can also email the governor from this link. I suggest you call AND email.

STOP THE SENSELESS SLAUGHTER OF THESE MAGNIFICENT CREATURES!!!

Thank you

in the state i live in there is one bear tag on every hunting license, i have never used mine. now, if i was walking in the woods and my life was in danger, im sorry, i aint dyin so a bear can make me his or her chew toy. thats the only way i would kill one. if that makes me a bad person, so be it. i have this affinity for life

the 800 number is busy...
but i got through when i dialed the 410 number
& i was able to express my concern...
and even though i am not a resident of that state...

the lady on the phone was so kind and she said that
she would make a note of my call and let the
department of natural resources know
of my objection and concern...flowerforyou

so just call and let your voices be heard...
save the lives of our fellow woodland creatures...drinker

i hear you thumper..

heck, me too...by all means...

God put us in dominion over the creatures of the field...
but, that doesn't mean for people to take advantage of that
authority...

.and i am not directing this at you ...

this is a blanket statement

we need to love our fellow creatures and all living things
like the old indians who were in connection with the earth

but if it comes down to who is going to live...
him or me and my family,
i am going to make darn sure
it is him going down,
not me or mine ...

sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad I think the game and fish department or DNR is more suitable at determining whether or not a hunt is necessary to hunt bears, not some bleeding heart animal rights freak! hunting is not cruel, it is necessary in sustaining the animal by managing the population. you people are just plain ignorant! in the early 90's here on opening day of the elk hunt a bunch of anti's went out making a ruckus and spooked the elk so the hunt was a failure...the elk suffered because of it, being that there was no harvest that season and with all the young born there wasn't enough food and it put a hurtin' on the heards. you have to manage population.

ever seen an animal starving to death? I have. They get so weak that they cant eat. Hunting, done properly, culls the herd and eliminates this. I dont know why the PETA types cant see this,,, mabe they need to put down the mother earth news and go for a walk in the spring of the year when the animals are recovering from thier winter hunger.

bill,, i fully agree, this is why i take the animals i take, and we have a great balance where i hunt every year. plenty of food and water, and the deer are all very healthy. but most places, we have a population explosion and at leasst 50 wrecks involving deer every day across the state.

why do people have to just automatically
assume things about others..?
i am not related to peta and never have been...
and i don't appreciate your blanket judgements...

be kind
or someone will be making target practice out of you laugh

I have nothing against hunting myself.
I can't do it though.
It is hunting for- "just the sport of it" that gets to me.
I mean if you are going to eat it, well that I understand.
Nature is nature- we do not allways need to interfer.
Sometimes the hunting is totally unnessesary.

sorry just a very touchy subject with me! if you don't want to hunt then don't, but don't stop others. and yes I do eat bear I also eat mountain lion if I kill it I grill it.
