Trust is the key to healthy relationship

I'd go with communication being more "key," if it's absolutely necessary to find one "key" to try and open every lock.

If communication is good enough, it doesn't really matter if you trust them or not.

You know what's going on whether or not they directly tell you and can protect or prepare yourself.

Trust not based on the information brought about by communication is just faith.

Although, what allows for the best communication is intelligence and experience.

So...maybe the "key" to a healthy relationship is to be smart enough to know what the other person is saying or doing no matter what's coming out of their mouth (communication) and having the experience to know what it means and what to do about it.

Trust is the "key" to a child's relationship.

You have to "trust" your mother because she has absolute power over you and is completely responsible for you, your behavior, and your well being, simply because you are physically (and legally) incapable and don't know any better as a kid.

If that's the type of relationship you want, then I would agree "trust" is the key.

Trust is earned through action.
