The film takes place on Thra, a planet with three suns; the Great Sun, the Rose Sun and the Dying Sun. Many creatures and races inhabit the planet, but the dominant race is the urSkeks, who are the guardians of the Crystal of Truth. The Crystal harnasses the forces of nature, especially the light of the three suns, for the benefit of all on Thra.

Very cool movie and love the Puppeteering on this, it's just so cool to see what they were doing with FX before CGI and that, I just bought the 25th anni. addition and It brought back so many memories when I was a kid watching it and it still brings me to a gentle awe of sorts.
I just wish they were doing more stuff like this but it seems CGI is all the rage now and has taken over, long are the days of crafters and painters, set designs and puppeteers and hand drawn animation.
it's sad that we probably will not see another movie like this for a long time when it will be consittered "Retro" and "cool" to bring back a lost art.

Kind of makes me want to get into that field just so I could bring it back for a while but between my Novel and My music I really don't have the time to fit that in altough I could do the voices, I've always been good at voices.

Oh I love it . I actually found the DVD at a Kroger on 2 for $10 rack . My little sister hadnt seen it and was totally uninterested . I loved the movie when I was her age .

I'm curious how The Dark Crystal 2 is gonna be. It's do next year. Look it up. It's in production.

i luvd this movie as a child and watched it many times. i am some what shocked there is going to be a sequel. cant imagine how its going to be yet i am excited to watch it when it comes out

Theres a comic version of Labyrinth 2 out. Its ok, but it would be better on screen with a bunch of puppets...just like Dark Crystal!

I swear tho, every creature in the DC movie scared me as a kid. None of them really looked like heros, they all looked evil lol.

hhmmmm, I hope the new Dark Crystal movie isn't going to be ruined, so many movies today are drek, I don't know how they'll pull it off or what the plot is going to be seeing that the Crystal is back together.
Who knows maybe it will be about the Gelfling repopulation or something?

Sequals that are years (...er decades) later are usually not as good. I'll definatly see it. I read there WAS gonna be some puppet work. And that the Skeksis would be , somehow, involved. We'll just wait and see.
I agree. The movies of the 80s and such were alot more artistic. Less concentrating on the big action sequence, special effects, politically correct this-and-that, and more focus on story. exam: Dragonslayer & Krull were way better than Eragon or Dragonheart.

i have to agree, that vulture was so creepy when i was younger but now that i go back and watch it its really ok, not to mention the puppeteering is incredible, lol just a good movie
