I've had a similar experience. Most don't read the profile just send hook up messages. And the ones that seem like they are sincerely looking for something serious and I've spent significant time messaging end up disappearing after a day or 2 of messages. I don't get this online dating at all, but you aren't alone. I did this to have a choice over who I reached out to for communication vs my friends setting me up (can get awkward) but I guess it's the way of online dating.
