After forking out a hundred bucks for a cell phone for an A T& T prepaid cell phone they told me that if I wanted to go to a plan that I would have to buy a different phone. I was told that they are billed different.

From every experience I've had with AT&T (formerly cingular), all you have to do is get a new SIM card for the plan-based service, and if they do make you get a phone it's usually free anyway with a 1 or 2 year service contract.

Thanks, Brennon. I did notice people coming into the Radio Shack store where I bought the phone trying to switch out their sim's card. I bet sim's cards are as different as the phones.

Well this is what happened to me. I had a motorolla phone bought from Verizon Wireless on 100th St. Lakewhere. USA So, it crapped out, and I had to buy a new prepaid phone, and I got a Samsung. After about 6 trips to the store for problems, finally, they said you can apply for a contract now, but you have to buy a new phone. Well, I didn't do it. Just a couple of days ago, my phone, the same Samsung 630 crapped out again, and this time, it was dead after having a battery only 3 months old. So, I took it in, and this is what happened. The tech, Mel, took the phone, hit the power button, nothing happened. He took the battery off, put it back on, rebooted it, nothing happened. So another tech said you know where the extended batteries are don't u, and Mel headed through the door, my phone in hand, and disappearred. He came out in a few, and handed me my phone., which was now working just fine!!! No explanation or nothing, so I said "what did you do." He said well, you take off the battery, then you hit the power button which is END, and clear the static??? out of the phone. Then, you do a hard reboot and it is fine. Well helifino what a hard reboot is, but I can tell you Verizon is supposed to be the best for customer satisfaction? And hard reboot? I need a damn new phone. And I want to kick someone in the bott.
And the last part of the story, is they have an email address for customer satisfaction survey that you can fill out, and it says that the manager might call you, and of course he never did. But I filled it out. We will see what happens, and you have my story about Verizon Wireless, prepaid, and a hard reboot. Contact your AG...attorney general.

Mine is a Samsung SGH-a127. I found out this morning that the chargers are different. I lost the AC charger one somewheres so bought a car charger one in case I find the AC one.

well after one year, Verizon wireless has discontinued Samsung 630. And I did what you did, pay over $100 for a stupid phone that is now discontinued, and only a year old?

There are the new ones out there, but I cannot tell you a thing about them.. And I know nothing about SIM cards, so I suggest you go to google, and ask it a questions about your phone. That is all I can think of except talking to the other phone experts on JSH.
They might not be up just yet. It is only 8:47 am my time. Give it a full day in the forum for some answers.

Oh ok. The lady said they were going to get some new Slider Samsungs. Have you tried the sliders and do you think they are better than the fliptops?

I bet there is a catch or something to keep the sliders from sliding right out.

nope i don't know what a slider is, but i will sure look into it. they have LG's with new Samsungs there at Verizon now on dislplay, but I am leary of SAMSUNGS, and I don't care who I tell.
