Hi, I just received my first request from someone to be their "friend". Can someone explain what the purpose of that option is...I'm confused because this person has never contacted me in any other way....So, I was wondering what would be the point in saying "yes" to a complete stranger. Thanks!

you're making it a big deal out of nothing!! if you're thinking this much into something this small, DON'T ADD THEM AS A FRIEND! simple as that! wish i was of some help to this matter.

Thanks for your opinion. However, I'm actually trying to find out what the purpose of that option is. Does it change the way you contact someone?.....or does it allow additional options? I would love to ask the owners of this site this question....but, this is apparently my only option. I tried to find the explaination somewhere on the home page, but missed it if it's there.

I very seldom add someone as a friend that I have not had contact with but the option is there to give people more access to your profile then others will have, like adding testimonials. You can also mail them easier because they have an option on their friend photo box to mail them. Hope this helpsflowerforyou Oh and welcome to the site

There was one person who "wanted to be my friend" and I mistakenly added her, and removed her immediately after I saw her picture. I refuse to have any pictures listed as "friends" of people who think they need to show their chest hanging out, ugh. That's not friend material for me, so beware.

I accepted a friend that I didn't know. We went many weeks without contacting each other. Then one day we did. Come to find out, he's a nice guy. We're firming up plans to meet.

So accept the requests, what will it hurt?

NiceWoman1958:

Same here. After a first encounter with a smoker who dogged me out for not wanting to have smokers contact me, I've become very wary of some people on here, and that's probably why I will never contact anyone to be a friend. On the positive side of things, I've gone and signed up on other sites.

RomanticSoul..Sorry for your experience, but I don't it's necessary to throw the baby out with the bath water. There are creeps on every site.

As a general rule I accept friend invites from folks I have had at least some contact with previously, either through e-mail or the forums, and that is what I respectfully tell anyone who requests to be on my friends list...

I accept most anybody, but I guess I should return the guesture. Friends are a good thing. If someone gets out of line you can always block.
