How do you know when a user that you are talking to is "on"/active. thanks for the help If you click on their profile, it should say "Online Now"..

if their response's to you when "talking" are within a reasonable time like idk a few minutes or so they are probably online.. the green dot or "online now"doesn't mean much of anything... for example: my green dot has been on since this morning when i signed in but in reality i just opened my laptop a half hour ago...

my green dot has been on since this morning when i signed in but in reality i just opened my laptop a half hour ago... The green dot means that you are signed in. The system can't tell whether or not you are actually looking at the site!
