How much dirt is there in a hole that measures two feet by three feet by four feet?

Actually, it isn't specified what the hole is in. That's similar to a storm drain in size, and around here, they've got lots of dirt in them.

Assuming 1) dirt means all earthen material, 2) normal order that people list dimensions, 2’x3’ is the area and 4’ is the depth, and 3) the depth to the center of the core of the earth at that location is 20,900,000 ft:

Volume of earthen material = (1/3 x Area x Radius of the Earth) - (area x depth)

= (1/3 x 2’x3‘ x 20,900,000‘) - (2’x3‘ x 4’)

= 41,799,976 cubic feet
