Accepting the Lord is the qualification of the afterlife. The prodigal son spends his life in sin only to, at the last moment, accept the Lord. That last act qualifies him despite his life of sin. The devout stranger never learns of the Book, but lives a life as holy as a human can. If he knew, he would accept the Lord. Through no fault of his own, he does not.

Why do we deny the devout stranger?
