I often have asked myself the same question, but I think the answer is, the heart has no eyes to see, has no ears to hear, so it relays on feelings, which in the process the emotional expect of love happens, maybe i'm wrong but thats the way I think

when you fall in love, it's falling because we don't know where we are going... when you love someone your heart feels like it is falling or skipping a beat everytime to see or think about them

I always interpreted the "falling" as a metaphorical reference to something unexpected that just happens -- like falling into a camouflaged pit. There may be cannibals involved.

I am not IN LOVE with anything. Implies there is an out. I either love or I do not. It is a verb.

Falling, truly, implies that one is totally out of control. I'd say that's love.

You can only fall in love if there is someone there to catch you.

There is a logistical problem with the metaphor, though. I hear people say "fall OUT of love," too. Shouldn't it be CLIMB out, if you fall in? Or be rescued by firemen with a ladder?

Sometimes I think that is exactly what some need.

Falling, I think.. is different than loving.

A loving relationship can be a pretty reliable and somewhat static dynamic compared to the falling part. It can be comfortable familiar and reliable.

The falling part is anything but... whether falling in or out.
It is a change taking place. It can be very uncomfortable.. it does not usually make much sense. It can inspire a range of emotion. Everything from euphoria to despair.

Falling in love doesn't always mean you end up in a loving relationship. Is not necessarily a good feeling. The feeling can be completely nonreciprocating and shunned by the intended partner (Or victim, depending on how you look at it). It could be infatuation gone awry... It can make you feel helpless and anxious. It can cause some to behave obsessive, compulsive. It can drive some to completely irrational and sometimes anti-social acts in it's unhealthful state. The falling can cause us to take risks and make choices we otherwise would not make. Be with people we otherwise would probably run from.

It can also be intense, joyful and passionate no matter the outcome. Falling can be the precursor to a loving relationship ideally or it can just be a temporary state of mind and emotion entirely based in infatuation, emotional and physical desire.

If it is the later, it can be predicted and sought after. If it is the beginnings of a loving relationship, it usually happens when you least expect it.

For me.. if it is just romantic infatuation... I'll probably soon come to my senses. With any luck...before I start behaving irrationally.

If it is an honest precursor... it is an ongoing process.. usually happening many times throughout the relationship.
