I have been trying to Rip a CD for a friend so I can make her a copy. Well, I have Windows Media Player on the computer but I had to install a newer version so I would be able to rip the CD. Now whenever I start up WMP it slows my computer and Media player usually ends up saying not responding. Can anyone help??

Restart your computer, might help, i know sometimes when you upgrade a program, it requires a restart.

you have a bad download of the newest WMP or it got corrupted somehow.

Go into control panel and your windows setup and uninstall the media player, then reboot and reinstall it, then go get your upgrade again to the newest WMP

 if you downloaded windows media player 10..one of the newest..the new program has many copyright programs installed in it..it will NOT let you burn or copy a music or othher cd that you do not have the rights to...

Not even close. I tried restarting 3 times last night. Even today when I turn it on it does the same thing!

Hmm try explaining how are you trying to burn a cd with Windows Media player? I assume you have this music on your computer, so then i also assume you have made a playlist of the music and when you hit copy it freezes. I have had this problem before, i would check and see if Windows media player recognizes your burner in this case. Windows media player is not to me, a recommended media player anymore, i would strongly suggest ITunes or even using the software which came with the burner/computer to burn your cd this should produce the same results

There were 2 different music players on this computer when it was purchased. Windows Media Player and Music Match Juke Box. Both are not working as well anymore.

I have burned Cd's from this computer before without any trouble. WMP freezes up as soon as the window opens. If you go into task manager to shut it down it says not responding behind it. The same with Music Match.

Yes i was moreless refering to a program like Roxio, or Nero for the Cd burning software and from there drag the songs into a "playlist" to burn. This way you wont have the same problem

first issue: WMP ... lol. personally...I recommend Nero for burning/copying, and Winamp for listening, ripping, and just about everything else. drinker

clean your msconfig file. Are you running 95 or vista? If it's 95: Click on START, go up to RUN, and when the RUN dialog box opens, type msconfig, click on the startup tab and deselect all the programs that windows automatically starts. By doing this you are telling windows that you will decide when to run these programs. If you're running vista, then do the same thing. But, if you don't turn off the usc, you'll keep getting those stupid popup balloons telling you that windows started but did not run unauthorized programs.

but you can turn off those copyright features. They're only there for public places like coffe shops.

also, if you try reinstalling wmp, turn off your av software. That can cause problems.
