Just get a comfortable position whichever suits you, eyes open/ close no matter... And think nothing... Not a single thought... Tough but when u practice its awesome... U land into stillness .. Peace.

When you meditate and you are told to 'think nothing'.....it doesn't really mean that you don't think of anything. Our mind will still continue with it's thought processes. When you 'think nothing'....what you do is you let the thoughts continue, but you do not grasp onto to one single thought to think it thru'. Thus, your mind will be able to rest from the 'thoughts' and you can achieve a depth of peacefulness. You will know the difference when you achieve that.

Well said...U obviously have been practicing for a while

Yes...I have! Took someone to point out to me how not to 'think' to get it.....once you know, unless you are terribly upset or have loads to think of or preoccupied.... it takes just a matter of seconds to 'switch off' and settle down.

I often sit still in a quiet place and go into a deep state of focused thought, I consider it to be a form of meditation.

As Technovative mentioned, there is also another form whereby you actually want to catch that 'thought' when you meditate, whereby you ponder on it to come up with a solution. I have found when I am at a loss as to how to proceed, the answer does pop up when I meditate.

It took me about 6 months to reach the state where I sit and "turn it off"...absolutely helps in real life...have you tried walking meditation?
