Dear friend
If I could write to you there are a thousand things I’d love to say
Reminding you of the time we flew air imagination in the twilight zone and ended up in
Cairo, Egypt, Morocco, Zaire, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Togo, Congo, Ghana, Africa
Dancing to the beats of your ancestors, my ancestors
The hollow drums and calabash both emanating the same soulful sounds
Fufu and light-soup in our palms as we watched
Our people, my people serenade us with song and African dance.

If I could write to you
I will remind you of the painting and colours you used
Of your brown on my black, your light on my dark
Of the promises we made to each other
As we lay tiredly awake, defying sleep
Simply to enrich our eyes and minds with the lies we spun
To make the world, our world, our fantasy a reality

If I could write to you
I will remind you of the India you promised to show me
Of the shores and oceans of the waves and the way they slap against the rocks
Of their rhythms and rhymes and the way our hips will sway to their beat
Of the beautiful Asian bride, with her sari, the purples and rhinestones
The Indian golds, the bindi tattooed on her forehead, her eyelined eyes, her smile
That forms upon her lips as the tears glide, just a hint, on her cheeks
As she is welcomed into her in-laws arms and
We, rose to the darkest corners of the world, closed our eyes, opened our minds
And we touched the skies

If I could write
I would remind you that you are etched within the four corners of my mind
That you touched a place in my heart where only God resides
And even if I had the chance I’ll probably never put it down on paper
I’ll scribble it to you, using my psyche
Connect with you in our twilight skies
And sign this with my mind's eye

Meaning of Love

He lies on top of me naked
Sweaty, moaning, thrusting his manhood violently inside of me
He is excited; I can tell by the swell of his dick
And I lie there bored, counting sheep on the ceiling
My mind wonders again to another happy moment
When I used to lie in your arms
I am pulled back into this nightmare by his grunts, groans and moans
I ask him- “Did you come?”

Afterwards I watch myself clean myself
Lie back myself onto his bed
Silence engulfs me and I turn my back to him – again
I wonder why I am back here
It hurts each time he touches me, feels like a burn
Another piece of me dies within me
Yet I constantly find myself at your front door
With a smile plastered on my face
My mask firmly on

And it seems this is the price I have to pay for love
And although I know its wrong I can’t help it- this is all I have known
Growing up in a broken home, no father around to guide me
Watching my mother constantly begging and pleading for them not to leave
Offers them a piece of her and each time, even for a little while, they oblige
So I took her lessons and modified it
And now I use it constantly

And I wish I could go back to the days when I knew the meaning of love
When love would always come with a smile and kiss me, on my cheek
And I carefully remove the sheets on love and made love to love
Just like love will do to me
And I never equated meaningless sex with love
One night stand with love
Different men running in and out with love

But since love left me out in the cold
I find myself chasing love; never finding love
Losing the meaning of love; never understanding love
And wondering if I would ever know the meaning of True love

Never let a new man pay for the mistake of the one who came before. :-)
