I learnt something similar last week ., I put out raw honey for tiny wax eyes (native nz bird that feeds on fruit/nectar ) only to look out later and see one completely stuck in the honey bowl . I had to wash all the honey off before he was able to fly away lol . He did lose a few feathers but thankfully it didn’t affect his ability to fly . Now I give them honey water in a feeder . that was random as they come 🤣
