Hey everyone! I am thinking about moving to Australia for a little while to see what it has to offer. Has anyone ever been there and do you know if I need a seperate working visa if I want to stay for 6 months vs. a year? Is this a safe place to travel alone? Let me know any info you guys have...thanks so much!

A couple of things about Australia-

- they've got a buttload of incredibly scary, incredibly dangerous (meaning DEADLY) creatures out there. In fact, I've heard eight (or more) of the ten most deadly snakes live there, as well as a great many poisonous spiders.

- don't be surprised if the concept of "chivalry" (opening doors up women, etc.) is all but nonexistent there, as that's just something they don't practice.

- prepare for one HELL of a flight. It'll take about a little under a day to get there, and that's IF you're taking a direct flight.

The Lonely Planet..... (Hitchhiker's/traveller's guide to this universe).. it is online as well as in hardcopy, and is one of the best and most realistically informative pieces put together.

Worth checking out.

hi i went there last year and yes you will need a working visa to work there i have many friends there and will not mind refering you to them consider you will stand out as a american and not all aussies like us i went to sydney, perth, melbourne and brisbane. i strongly recomend you do your homework like the cost to live there and how much you will earn and consider most aussie men are kind of controlling and possesive according to my female friends. but go for it and am sure the kangaroos will love having a cute girl to look at. try spice of life dating site or rsvp australia dating site to talk to the people who live there and say hello to kangaroo jack. it is almost a 15hr flight from los angeles to sydney

Ive seen more of australia than most Aussies have. Its a pretty safe country but expect things to be more expensive, even if your dollar is better. I.E. chocolate bars $3 or more by now????

Its a beautiful country.....I wish you luck and you will need a work visa if you plan on working!
