What's the main attraction in Cali? Well...

- you could experience the thrill of sitting for up to half-a-day in L.A.'s wonderful traffic, which is likened the experience of watching grass grow.

- you could get mugged while at one of L.A.'s many attractions, like Universal City Walk (just don't mind the burnt wood smell emanating from inside... just a wee little fire), or Disneyland (don't mind the little kids getting beheaded on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride... they've had to let go of their salaried maintenance techs and externally contract to save money), or at Six Flags Magic Mountain, which has had a record 50 brawls take place out there, thanks in part to the incredibly bored gang members who seem to enjoy hanging out there.

- you can also enjoy the fun of picking used syringes, broken glass, and sharp metal objects out of your feet as you spend a day at one of L.A.'s many beaches. And all while testing your skills by dodging the many beach bums and meth-heads who pervade the sunny Left Coast.

Yup... there's lots of fun to be had in Cali. laugh

I live in the Los Angeles area....the weather varies whether you live near the beaches, the mountains between the city & the valley...or the Westside or further inland....

yesterday I went for a hike from the westside of the Santa Monicas toward Topanga Cyn....which meant i was headed North....the air was a mild 65-70 degrees...the vegetation along the slopes was lush with many wild flowers in bloom...as I climbed higher I could look out and see the ocean below....the area where Sunset Blvd. meets the Pacific Coast Hghwy....there was a layer of low lying clouds in various places along the hillside....it was quiet & peaceful....

Perfection. Except a lot of the people are not that friendly. It's way more expensive here.

There are also a lot of wannabees and pseudo-celebs stinking the air here in L.A. They're either pontificating on all the "three-picture deal" they "just scored" with Steven Spielberg or they're throwing out some other legit person's name to seem important. What's worse is that they all have to have bad attitudes about their false "celebrity", too- they've bought their own line of bull-honkey to SUCH an extent that they think they're Hollywood royalty or something.

Heck- there hasn't been a single REAL celeb to hang out in Hollywood for at least forty years. Hollywood Boulevard (and the immediate area around it) is a cesspool brimming with freaks and those wannabees I just talked about.

And yeah- things are at least fifteen-percent more expensive here than any other area of the state (except for the San Francisco area, which is HELLA expensive). So retiring here is simply out of the question, as your money simply won't get you very far out here.

It's one of the reasons why there's been an exodus of Californians to other states the last ten (or so) years- they're sick of the absurdly high income/property taxes with nothing in the way of returns, as well as the continued leaving of industry to other states (including, funnily enough, the film industry- it's been slowly strangled the last fifteen years now).

So you're paying a buttload of taxes for over-priced property, fuel/utilities/food, and there are no jobs to be able to afford the high cost-of-living.

Heck- I'd move out of Cali in a heartbeat if I could. It simply sucks out here.

I know it's expensive in California, especially San Francisco. But, I actually pay more in rent than a couple friends out there. And similar amounts in rent to a couple others. And, I live in Northern VA. Also, over the last couple years, at least 6-7 people I know have moved from the east coast to SF.
