Hi, I work for a circuit board manufacturer. We have had no real layoffs yet, but a few voluntary layoffs & the shut downs for the holidays were extended. I get get as much overtime as I want right now because my department is the bottleneck, & we are under deadlines. Every board has to be visually inspected & tested, so I feel my postistion is safe for a while, but the other departments are worried. We have milatary contracts & that is what is keeping us going.

I have never been a mallrat, but I am spending even less now, paying down debt & stocking up on staples as they come on sale.

You gotta ask?
Damn...
June my work fell off to almost nothing.
The business I work for lost 20% of our clients because of "economic" concerns.
We managed to survive but barely.
Work is finally picking up for me but I am taking jobs on I would normally give to someone else.
Yes it sucks and worst still is fuel prices are creeping up again.
Let me just say I am glad I can pay my bills but it is HARD right now!

I have never experienced a bad economy! A lot of jobs where i live i guess but i have never been without a job or had to look more than a day or two. I hear a lot about how bad it is and layoffs everywhere, but i havent seen it yet for anyone i know either.

My credit rating used to in the lower 20%. Now it is the lower 50%. Not that my credit has gotten any better but so many others has gotten worst.

A year ago I lost my entire department. Six hard working honest people gone with one swoop of the HR axe. Our block plant was closed, four more gone there, and the rest transferred to other locations. This left myself and one other person to close the place down and then report to another location. I made the prediction that I would last for 6 months or until the new regime had drained everything they could from me. I missed my prediction by two weeks. Just look at the Sunday classifieds and that will tell you how our economy is. There may be two columns of jobs, mostly sales. Keep turning the pages and you will find no less than one full page of foreclosure notices. In a nutshell--it sucks!

Military Contracts are just as unstable at the moment though. Though I voted for Obama and support him (I should say I beleive in him.) I have heard rumors that he is possibly about do eliminate or down size projects such as the F22 Raptor and other areas of our military to cut the budge this year. I also heard that his stimilus package, that I have not read yet, may also boast jobs in the US but also abroad. People are concerned that the stimulus package is going to boast more projects abroad than in the united states.

What I find educational and interesting is to watch family members that went through the Great Depression react to our failing economy. Part of me wants to follow their example while the other part wants to have hope that our new president and cabinet will be able to undo some of the past mistakes our government made plus install new policies to help our country in the future.

Personally my family owns a business in the construction industry, we are strong but watching our industry change around us and changing with the times. I have 3 friends that don't have steady jobs at the moment are having to create work in the meantime. It is scary to read the news and discover more layoffs than job creations for the New Year.
