For some reason I have only dated morons, women with GEDs and stuff, I don't think I ever dated someone who had a college degree and I have a master's degree. I ponder that sometimes, is it me? Do I not care or do I attract losers?

I've dated women who dropped out of school early and women who had college degrees. The reality is that their education levels rarely, if ever, had anything to do with their intelligence -- at least, not as far as I could tell.

I look at it like this, at some point you're going to be in your 80's, I would like to have a woman that I can disuss the world around us. The physical attraction is great, but the physical doesn't last forever, what goes on between the ears and in the heart are far more important traits to me.

Academic intelligence far differs from common sense and being intelligent about life.

I am a nerd; I'm going to reach the highest academic standard of achieving my doctoral. How many boyfriends have I dated with even an AA degree? NONE! Did I connect with them intellectually? YES. I woudn't date anyone that wasn't reasonably intelligent.

I like having a sounding board when I work on my thesis papers, or during finals - a study buddy is nice. I appreciate someone that supports my educational goals. I don't expect him to keep up with a lot of the stuff I am going through but as long as he is there for me - then he doesn't have to get a degree too.

That being said, I can't stand slang, poor writing skills, or poor grammar. I prefer a person to function with at least a 12th grade comprehension level. winking

Someone can still be intelligent, yet not met their educational goals. So, while I would not pass a person up because they haven't had a certain amount of education, I would pass a person up if they weren't intellectually compatible with me.

I listen to a person -- what they have to say, and how they say it, means a lot more to me than pieces of paper saying so-and-so graduated from someplace I never heard of.

You ask this question knowing full well that no matter how smart the person is, choices in mates are often the dumbest things a person can be at.

Agreed. Real education comes from life experience. It's nice to have a peice of paper for the purpose of gaining a competitive edge, but that's really and truly about it.
