It's actually the "conflicker" virus, and it's a known threat. If anything, it's morphed into something rather serious the last couple of years. If you haven't updated your anti-virus/anti-spyware proggies, you'd better do so now, or you're gonna get screwed.

as per pc magazine.....If you want an easy check to see if you have the cornflicker trojan, just launch your 'puter in "safe" mode and see if it launches. If it does not, you have it due to the fact that it disables "safe" mode. If it launches, you are not infected.

Your pc won't be at risk if you have all your windows updates installed. The virus in question takes advantage of an old vulnerability.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/dd452420.aspx This utility will scan for this and remove it if found. You want to do it today as it it believed to activate and possibly morph tomorrow. Microsoft called us at work today to make sure we were aware of the threat. |

My local news said that if you can surf the internet freely but can't get on any microsoft owned websites then chances are your computer is infected with the virus. Well I've been able to go to the microsoft websites so I guess my PC is not infected. So no need for me to mess with downloading the tools to get rid of something that isn't even there.
I still think its a April Fools joke that many people including the media are falling for. But that's just me.
