Topic: How do you deal with change?

I woke up this morning thinking I would work my regular 8 - 5 schedule. It has come a monsoon outside and (2) of my second shift staff called out today, so it looks like I will be going in from 2 - 10 tonight. It works out as my daughter is still feeling bad and won't be going to daycare today and my ex is supposed to pick her up so she can spend the night with him tonight at his house.

I guess my question is - how do YOU adapt to change? When someone throws a monkey wrench into the middle of your plans, turning them upside down: do you get angry, deal with it, or enjoy the change of scenery?

I thrive on change and I am an adreneline junkie (not the jumping out of airplanes or robbing banks kind) but I like to solve problems. So, all is good today flowerforyou

I just go with what is thrown at me. I have to do what has to be done. I learned that when I stepped out on my own after being married for 20 years. Scary but I am doing it because I HAVE to.

I'm like you Meg, love the challenge and excitement of plans gone awry. I laugh, I turn, I have fun with it.

It may make me a bit crabby at first...but then I just deal with it! flowerforyou

Being one to check my expectations- in some cases I accept the change. In others I am critical.

Dragonfly - I hear you. Being a single mother all of the sudden has made me the same way. I think it is called survival...lol

Thank you, Lily! flowerforyou

Jules - I agree because there are some days that the crabbiness does hit me and I need to deal with that first and then get on with it. bigsmile

I like that lhb  you are like Gumby - flexible! It is a very good thing, that way you don't get overwhelmed.

How I react initially depends on the circumstances but, life is ever changing, I can either accept that, deal with what comes up and find some positive in it or be one angry and stressful person. Better to find the joy, especially since my emotions aren't gonna change anything anyway flowerforyou

It is fsr better to be a cheerful giver (of yourself even when the chips are down, so to speak). I agree.

Lily - has anyone ever told you that you look like the actress Holly Marie Combs from Charmed? You are a dead ringer!

for the most part i roll with the punches and keep on getting it. Aint no reason to fall apart cause someone decided to change what you wanted to do.

Seeing how my life is different everyday, I guess I deal with change rather well. There is never a "standard" day for me, and I like it that way.

I'm a problem solver, as well. I've always had to be because my life has been nothing but constant change. So I usually take the changes in stride and make it work.

I rely on consistency and feel better with schedules yet I know life is always throwing monkey wrenches... I just deal with them when they come, learn from them and adapt to them,,, but I would rather have consistency then spontaneous actions unless it's my choice...

After all said,, I am really good in emergency situations and am usually the one to stop and help out with what ever it takes...
