Sometimes it may not be over but the relationship will be damaged, needs repair at this point.

I think there are times when a spouse may be so ill or exhausted that they need a break from the stress of supporting a relationship the way it might genuinely need.

That may mean a hospitization or a retreat but what it DOES NOT include is a break from fidelity, doing no harm to the betrothed, or just pretending not to be married or in a committed relationship.

If someone told me that is what they wanted I would consider that and extream situation and a likely end to the relationship.
