Texas Scoundrel gave me this idea, after he talked about his favorite Christmas readings and the book "Less than Zero." The movie does a decent job of capturing the essence of the book. But of course, the book was better.
What are your "best" and "worst" movies, when it comes to representing the book it was written for. I have found a few Stephen King novels that have translated quite well onto the big screen. "Misery" was very well done. The worst was Kurt Vonnegut's "Breakfast of Champions." GREAT book. Pathetic movie (starred Bruce Willis) |

I think "Misery" was the last book I read. I was not at all disappointed when I saw the movie

Less Than Zero is a fantastic example! Bret Easton Ellis rocks. I think that American Psycho had a much better adaptation and direction. Robert Downy Jr. was amazing in Zero, though.
Um... Choke, by Chuck Palahniuk, is one of my favorite books, and the movie was pretty wretched. Most of the really interesting material was completely omitted and substituted with ironic humor... *cringe* |

Ian McKellen's version of Macbeth was better than the book. Hehe.

The thing that aggravated me the most, is that they even changed little things, that wouldn't have mattered anyway!
I was fuming when I walked out of that theatre.

Several people on here said the book was better, so I'd love to know why you chose to quote me to disagree with personally?  I was under the impression that we were all giving our opinions, based on our own experiences with books that are made into movies. If you have an opinion, that's fine, and I'm very glad to know that you read books, since so many people don't, but please allow others the freedom to express their opinions, without attempting to engage them in useless debate or to make it seem that your opinion is the only one that matters. Thank you.

I actually like the Count of Monte Cristo better in movie form. I think because I liked the way the movie ended better.

BTW can you not tell when someone is simply being onery in a joking manner?
