This will probably get moved to Sports/Health/Fitness, but oh well.

I was wondering what the average time it takes for a fractured bone to heal. Specifically your forearm or wrist. I was in a minor car accident last December, and my body crushed my right forearm on the steering wheel in the impact. The pain was pretty bad for about a week or two, and things started to feel normal again as far as lifting things. But if I rotate it in some positions, it still hurts. It's been about 8 weeks now since the accident. I'm wondering when I'll get full motion in my forearm. I work out with weight resistance every few days, and not really any problem, it's when I turn it in certain positions when it hurts.

Was wondering what people's experiences with fractured bones are. And no, I'm not going to see an oncologist. I did that once after a bike accident in '05, and all he did was take some expensive x-rays, give me a sling and some vicadin, not alot of help.

silly, for the most part my right arm is back to normal. Except when I turn it a certain way and even more so when I try to lift something at that angle, then it really hurts. So obviously my radial bone is not quite healed yet or it wouldn't hurt. It's been 8 weeks now, and I was wondering if it might be another 8 weeks before I get full range of motion in my right arm. I feel better, and thanks for your wishes, I just get frustrated that I'm not 100%.

Sure without a Doctor looking at it to see if it has healed properly that would be hard to answer. It all depends if that bone healed in the proper way and well only x-rays can tell you that.

Myself the only thing I have ever broke is my collar bone. I did crack my elbow at one time they did not catch it on the first x-ray about 2 months later it got to hurting so bad I could not stand it. Went to my regular Doctor after the first week they finally had to do x-rays as well and found the crack. They said it was hurting due to healing it took another 2-3 weeks before it did not hurt anymore.

I understand, Txs. And I have seen a doc/quack in the past, but they were useless in my opinion. Just some pain-pills, a sling or a cast, and a nice bill. Basically your body does the healing, there's no magical mo-jo a doctor is going to be able to do for a fracture. So, another 2-3 weeks? So I should be good by mid-March. Hopefully this happens, and I am using my own weight-resistance training at the rec center to build up strength in that arm too for therapy.

That could be true but one must make sure the bone was set back in the correct place in order to heal. What they told me for mine since it was just a crack that it was hurting so bad due to the healing I did get some meds had too could not stand the pain. And used a elbow brace for about 2 weeks as well.

Main thing as far as x-rays is just to make sure on fractures is that the bone is back in the correct place from there it is up to the body.

I just fell and crushed 7 toes and fractured both heels...Had surgery on the 11th and talking they might have to fuse the sub-toular(Sp) joint...This will be a slow healer...Very painful..

I have medical insurance but pay out the butt for it...WE NEED REFORM AND NEED IT NOW!!!!!

A hairline fracture should in about 8 weeks...Broke many fingures over the years....

OWWIE!!!scared What happened? How did you fall? I'm sorry that happened to you. If you're like me, you really hate persistent pain. I've had more than enough experience with pain, and I kinda know what you're going through, but I never had crushed toes, ouch. I'm so sorry.

Depends if you put it in a brace or not, I would advise putting it in a brace for at least a week or so...should be able to find a wrist brace somewhere out there. Should have seen a doctor about it though, there are some fractures so serious that a recurring injury can really mess it up and can completly disable the limb.

Yeah, people keep saying "should have seen a doctor" but the last onco I saw didn't really do much for me. I don't like the racket doctors are running these days, so forgive me if I don't trust them. I will try the wrist brace thing. I just happen to have one, and I think that will help. Like I said, I can do most things with my right arm, it's just the twisting and turning that hurts. I hear conflicting advice at times. Some say to immobilize it, while others say to do therapy and weight resistance to strengthen the injured limb. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it.

Keep it immobilized at least another week, after that you can start with rehabilitating it...it needs to heal somewhat before you start moving it around a lot.

Broke both of my ankles countless times, the last time I went to the doctor...apparently one more break could be the "boiling point" so-to-speak with my ankles. Broke both of my wrists a few times, dislocated both of my shoulders and one collarbone...and took a hell of a crack on my noggin.smokin

Sounds like you have a colorful history. Do you skateboard or snowboard? Be careful on those ankles, you still want to be able to walk. A broken wrist is one thing, but being in a wheel chair because you can't walk anymore is pretty hard to get used to.

Skateboard, good guess. Every single one of those injuries I suffered while on my skateboard...most of them I just walked off, but they have a way of catching up to you eventually.

I used to skateboard about 20 or so years ago, and have had several skater-punk friends over the years, so I have an insight. Tried snowboarding a few times, but since I got so banged up, I went back to skiing. It's cool and everything, but you take your lumps trying it. Imagine a 40 y old OOOG trying a stair-rail. Nothing but disaster. rofl rofl rofl
