What do you do for first dates? Do you do something different each time, depending on who it is, or do you have a usual first date that you go on?

What was your last first date like?

I always go for coffee as its a safe atmosphere for me. Last date I had was good but guess he didn't like me as never called again. Oh well.

No, I don't have a set plan, I mean other than whatever I do will probably end in disaster. whoa

Lessee, dusting off the memory banks, I'd have to say that on my last first date, we went to the zoo, dinner, and blowing bubbles in the park.

I'm always open to ideas for first dates, but usually we just end up grabbing a drink somewhere, or walking around outside and talking. It's easy and low pressure.

The last first date, we walked around until we were freezing, then went to grab a drink and chat for a while.

Then that second date would be your first date, so what good does that do?

And no, I don't find them awkward at all if we get along well.

No need to be sorry. I wasn't asking for advice. I'm just curious about what others do. If that works for you, awesome.

Oh let's see. Some of this goes back some years.

1. College sporting event, Gymnastics (1)
2. Dinner w/ drinks (7)
3. No date required; arranged(10)
4. Hit it off at party/event (3)
5. Text/Email/Phone (4)
6. Sports: Running, shooting (3)
7. Hot tubbing invite (1)
8. Dinner at my place (1)
9. Dinner and Theatre (Play) downtown
10. Bar, pub crawl (4)

It was difficult to put this together. I realized that very rarely do I ever invent a "date" with someone I don't really know. Usually, I go out with someone I've already had some shared experience with, so it doesn't really feel like a first date.

For example, I met my last gf at a running event and that lasted for well over a year. By "running event", I mean there were 156 half-drunk people in red dresses running through Toledo. And when I say, "met", well you get the idea.

Another one lives two hours away. A mutual friend hooked us up and we started a text and phone relationship. When she came down to see me... well it wasn't for a "date".

She had something come up just before her second trip and that left me at a social event with no date. The girl across the table, whom I bumped into now and again with this running group said, "Oh I wouldn't stand you up!" So I invited her to meet me at a bar afterward. And she did.

Another girl posted that she was taking stuffed peppers out of the oven. She asked if I wanted to come over for dinner and eat them in the hot tub. Well, I did.

Sometimes, I just happen to be one of the last ones standing at a party and a girl might need a "cuddle buddy" or maybe something more.

But again... I don't have to design a fancy date.

Mainly, I'm just a nice guy at the right place at the right time.

I've had very healthy relationships from the most bizarre beginnings, some quite debaucherous. If there's a formula out there, I don't know what it is.

I don't think there's really a need to "design" a fancy date in the beginning anyway. All of what you listed sound like good first dates!

Museums work for me. Public place, lots of available conversation topics if needed, low pressure (anxiety is not my friend), and there's usually a place nearby to eat if we want. I don't like the purely coffee-and-chat first date because I stress out too much about whether we'll like each other. I'm not good enough at small talk to cover an hour's worth of boredom, and having one person leave early is so embarrassing.

I think museums are an awesome idea for a date.

Though, if I can't last an hour with someone just talking, we probably won't make it very far when it comes to dating.

u can pretty much call any first date. u need to be unique. Me personally i can't stand first dates they are so generic and hallmark. Instead of going eat, get coffee, riding horses or what ever it is people like to do. i would go to six flags or white water :O Just to have fun without the awkwardness of wonder if i or he/she is interested just go have fun and see where it goes. :)

Lots of good advice from the more experienced, I'm taking that in as well.

For me, what I do is I find out as much about the girl as possible by playing "your favorite...?" game. You ask each other what your favorite blah is and alternate.

I'm all for trying new things, so if a girl were to mention her favorite sport is rugby (haven't found this girl yet), and her fav. food is Flip, flower is black baccara; then we put it all together for a possible "best date ever!"

This has backfired on me recently as the girl wasn't much for making plans and felt rushed to get ready. But that is what I do, I try to create a unique experience per person/first date.
