Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children, or your pets. Give it a try.

A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough to share--and it really works!

"This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc."

"Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.

So burning them off with a match or lighter isn't the proper way to remove ticks?

Burning them off doese work.
So does pouring poroxcide on them.
But I think I would like to try thedish soap first.

You can put a little dab of vaseline on them too and they'll come off so they can breathe.

But I like the dish soap one cuz they stick to the cotton...

Advantix, how I love thee.

Last year we went camping and I used some off brand spray for my dogs(dog safe, just didn't work)

This year the ticks where not as bad, but still I had pulled several off of me by the end of the 5 day camping trip. Not a single one on either dog using advantix.

I read that you could rub the back of the tick circularly with your finger and its head would pop out. I have tried covering the tick with rubbing alcohol and I know that that works.

I am afraid that if I did this, I would set the dog on fire!

What worked for me was applying regular insecticde to them (like you'd use on your plants). Dunk the end of a Q-tip in the insecticide then swab it over the tick.

Just make sure it's safe for pets and people.

Acetone/ fingernail polish remover also works, so does rubbing alcohol.

I'm so glad I live where there's no ticks.

Interesting, they usually love mangy dogs. Maybe it's the fleas?

I do have a whole flea circus and sideshow.

I charge my fleas and ticks rent. When they don't pay up, they get "evicted".

A cotton swab of tea tree oil has always worked well for me.

make certain you're not infected with any of the Diseases carried by the Tick,if you are bitten!

And heres one that stops them in the first place and smells nice too. Tics hate lavender. If you have a lavender plant, rub your hands on the plant before the dog goes out and then rub your hands up and down the dog. Failing that, get some lavender oil and do the same thing, but obviously not where the dog can lick it off so head and shoulders are best.

well in my country we have what we call otapiapia.. I spray a little round my late dogs body and ticks all jump out dead.. Also heard you can apply olive oil on it and pick it out.. I prefer killing them
