Topic: My cat just had a nightmare?

So I was minding my own business strumming my guitar learning a new song. My cat was asleep not even two feet away from me on my bed. All of a sudden, she started twitching violently and then woke up even more violently. Without hesitation, she jumped in my chest since the guitar was occupying my lap still twitching and staring at me with her scared look. Now she is purring and won't let go of me.

Am I wrong to believe my kitten just had a nightmare? (she may be almost 10 years old, but she still thinks she is 10 days old)

It seems to me the cat hated the new song you were playing. It disturbed her sleep and the only way it could get you to stop was for it to jump on you. Just sayin'.

LOL I was beginning to think the same thing, but once I settled her down, I began to work on the same song again. She went back to bed fine and is - excuse the pun - purring like a kitten.

Lol. Animals dream. Have you ever seen a dog's legs run while sleeping, so cute. I think they are running with the pack in meadows full of rabbits ~##>

My cat dreams a lot, he's never woken up violently though. When he's sleeping he tosses and turns and makes cat growning noises. It's pretty adorable.

Maybe she just dosen't like how you play the guitar. :p jk

It does sound like she may have heard something that starteled her though.

Since she is ten years old I would play it safe and take her to the vet for a check up.Rule out any medical problems such as a seizure or something.

Oh I take my kitten to the vet on a regular basis, I have to because she has problems seeing out of one eye. Other than that which she has had her whole life, she is healthy as can be.

Also, like I mentioned, she grew up hearing me play, and listening to me teach others how to play. Never really moved or never really bothered her, no matter how good or bad my students sounded. :P

yes I understand, but when something different like that happens it might be something that a regular check up missed or a new developement or nothing at all. Sometimes even the slightest symptoms can mean really big problems. You just never know.

Yes, mine dream, I watch them twitch, their
breathing may change, I usually give a soft
rub, sometimes they never even wake before
calming down :-)

I have 5, raised from birth, nearly 10
years old now.

One night, 3am, one of them accidentally
jumped on the ON switch of the shop vacuum
I had left out.

All 5 cats went straight into the air at once,
quite a spectacle, as I was also halfway there.

Awww thanks, they are :-)
Freddy, the lifer, plots all day how to escape.
Eddy, Special Ed, the siamese, unlike anything on earth.
Betty, my girl, she grooms me all day long.
Pinky, my heart, too chubby, never leaves my side.
Plumpy, the alpha male, he cries when I go in the bathroom
without him.

We are about to mix them with krupa's dog Chatka, a Lab :-)

Has the dog ever been around cats? and vise versa?
How old is the dog? My vet once told me that if the pets are 8 or younger they will usually adjust to each other, over 10 not so much.
I guess 9 could go either way lol

We may fit in there :-)
My cats go crazy wonderful when they see
another animal, they are clueless having
always been inside.
I took them out, Fred ran right to a big
dog and wanted to play..the dog was
really confused :-)

Oops! Sorry, LOL, I keep trying to tell my kitten that she is a cat, but she knows she is human.

Sad, when I eat dinner at my computer desk, I even have to put her food dishes and water dish next to my keyboard and set up a second chair so she can eat dinner with me like the rest of us humans. :P
