I think that the success of online dating relies a lot on location. I'm still on the site because I enjoy the forums. Recently though, a woman around my age and in my area signed up on the site and even viewed my profile. She's not my type but this has given me hope that maybe one day the girl for me might happen upon this site and maybe her and I could make a connection. A long shot I know, but it may actually be possible. Most other local profiles haven't been active for 'over a month'

I still think meeting someone in real life is far more effective but maybe online is possible, even for me. Or not...

I have to agree with you, location is key to meeting someone if you are serious about wanting to find t@ someone online... however long distance relationships can work too.

I enjoy the forums too

Are you from New Zealand? I've always wanted to go there, especially the South isle. I've met a few peeps here on the Big Isle from there and they're always really cool

Unless someone is willing to move, it's always like real estate: Location, Location, Location. Distance is just something some people cannot overcome. But like a real estate listing, you never know when someone will join the listing in your area.

This one. But I think its like anything else. IRL or online, if you don't do anything about it then you shouldn't complain about the lack of outcome. Or complain, its more fun that way. Keeps things less boring. Gives ya something to do. bigsmile

Aside from weird encounters on trains it seems like I meet almost everyone off the internet in one capacity or the other, whether it be from a dating website or something or if it's a meetup site where I find writing groups.

I actually was talking to a really cool girl from Hawaii back in the day... so happy hunting.

If you can afford a smart phone apparently this one really popular site has this terrifying app where you can actually see if other people from the site are in the vicinity around you. Crazy, right?

I'm sure awesome girls from Hawaii exist, just not in my circles. Apparently you've meet one of them, that's cool. I find though that they don't use dating sites much and I probably need to get out a bit more to meet them

That app you speak of does sound a bit creepy

You have to believe in hope because if you take the hope away then there's nothing left.

Personally I just hope I find some good friends. Everything else is a bonus.

There's a lot left without hope, such as an objective reality.

Hope-a-holism can make someone fatally boring.

If you expect nothing, seek little, and present yourself then you tend to show a lack of interest, which is really appealing to a lot of people.

Apathy's the new black - it goes with everything.

Hopelessness: Bleak, having no expectations of success, incapable of improvement or accomplishment, no cure or remedy...

Talk about boring!indifferent

From Urban dictionary:
hopelessness
1.when a moment or event breaks ones spirit or ones ability to function 2. a feeling associated with helplessness and/or loss. 3. Sadness in clinical proportions.

2. Hopelessness
The moment when you realise that everything in your world is wrong, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

3. Hopelessness
the epitome of watching someone die and being able to do nothing to stop it

Beyond boring...ohwell

I'd have to agree. I can't think I'd like to have a partner or friend who didn't have hope. I guess most people have gone through the feeling of hopelessness at some point. Maybe just for five minutes or much longer. Personally it makes me feel sick and it's a horrible feeling. The thought of being like that on a long term basis and accepting it as the norm just isn't worth thinking about.

I am sure there is hope. As the old adage reminds us "for every Jack there is a Jill".

Having said that, there is often a shortage of Jills!! tears tears

“Hope is something really tough and tenacious you have to give up. It’s an addiction to break.” - Palahniuk, Damned

"Losing all hope is freedom." - Palahniuk, Fight Club

Ironically, I hope that he writes a sequel to Damned.
