I always thought it meant that if you get something free appreciate it, and don't go looking for flaws. The use of the horse was because people can determine the horse's age by their teeth.

smart guy:thumbsup: waving yeah I guess if I was without a horse.. back
in the day and the local livery only had a free horse with a stumble
and he new I had a hundred mile walk out of the canyon then it would
be an insult to look at the horses teeth.

like the expression: they're starting to get long in the tooth, referring
to older people.
It appears an older horses teeth are getting longer but the gums retreat
with age. so as Leigh mentioned it can mean a few different things.

frustrated really not sure why we're talking about this wretched (Valentine's Day)holiday already. Especially when it's over a month away! I despise holidays set up by greeting card makers and florists just to fleece the people of hard earned money to show their supposed significant others how much they care for someone. Of course, I'll be sitting there brokenheart on the day most likely....drinks

I'm editing my previous comment, because I forgot that most people on this site still believe in fairy tales and enjoy being miserable because they're alone on holidays, simply because society has told them that being alone is bad. So I'll let everyone have that....I'll be in the corner over here enjoying the chocolates and roses and admiring how my ring hits the light.smokin

Valentine's Day is about love, not validation.....smitten ....And it's fun too...Remember in grade school...Making a Valentine box and everyone exchanging those cute little cards :-)...And how much you hoped you would get the "I love you " card from your secret crushlove ...

get her anything so I have to perform droolon my sweetie. .thats a
Win,win situation for a "western man"

Considering neither of those is an option. slaphead (Unless I put lipstick on my hand 1st to make it look like lips) I'll stick with smokin cuz it at least helps to feel:heart:(loved somewhat) as opposed to feelinggrumble oryawn asleep. I consider it a wretched day because the day has usually been a horrible day for me in the past. And I'm not the optimist type.....my badwinking

This is so true. I had to listen to those who were whining about being alone for Christmas. I was alone too but no big deal. Seems people need to see how good they have things. There are people that are homeless, jobless, and hungry. They have it way more worse that those that are alone.

That was fun. I had a few secret admirers that wrote some mind blowing
things. One that I am now remembering was in grade 9 and my name was called on the morning announcements as we all started the day from our
home rooms. Thinking I got busted for something I thought I got away
with. It turned out "they" were able to use the school office as a 'middle man' & the reception passed me an envelope.
It had some Valentines cards with a detailed letter how she had been
watching me and admiring my physique for quite some time. It just stoped
me in my tracks as I was reading it.It was both a weird and flattering
feeling I remember.I did eventually find out a few years later
but she never led on,she definitely was a good girl type.

"To all you Virgins, thnks for nothing".I owned a T-Shirt that said
that; which I wore to school, that year I'm sure

you guys got stories?
