Only professionals should work with Ouija boards, they open a portal through which anything can enter.

What do you believe about smudging? Does it really get rid of negative energy?

I have absolutely no idea what this means.
Yes I know I could have googled it but that's cheating, can someone please explain, then as usual, I will give my humble opinion.

it's an American thing, from the natives...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smudge_stick

I have a native american friend from Montana who is a Shaman(www.Heyoka-art.com). He also makes high end jewelry (made a headpiece for Cher that she wore in a movie), bronze figurines prayer boxes and has written several books. He also teaches the young n/a the art of ceremonial dance. He always smudges all the pieces that make up a piece of jewelry and taught me how to do that. I always had good luck in selling my jewelry so hopefully that helped. After going thru a lot of rough times in my life and losing my husband and mom, I decided to keep as many negative people and things out of my life as possible. My life has been so much better, not as much stress..
I always use the white sage when smudging, love the smell..

Let's say you're moving into a house and you want your new residence cleaned.

If, you know the prayers and process, do the smudging and cleansing yourself. If not, I'd recommend a pro. Preferably a reputable medicine man.

Smudging is only half the cleansing process. Sweetening has to also be done.

Yep.
I done my entire place shortly after I'd moved in. Took me the better part of an afternoon, candles, bowls of salt and water in each room, incl. the cupboard under the staircase, bog, bathroom, every accessible space/room.
Then go around smudging and saying the affirmation in every room (going thru the house clockwise) and each corner of each room. So takes quite some time.
Then leave the candles burning for at least 1 hour. Ventilate and then whatever ritual to bring in positive energy.
I put a spiritual lock on my house after the smudging, again each room, clockwise. Had a huge crystal and a bunch of sunflowers in a vase downstairs in the centre of the house to anchor the energies and bring in positive energies.
I didn't really bother with sweetgrass as I got some 160 crystals and other spiritual/energetic/magickal items. More than enough and more than what sweetgrass can do.
I may have used essential oils, I much prefer that anyways. (I got real frankincense oil, also good to attract positive energy).
Occasionally smudge the place, not always the entire house, sometimes just the one room (I feel what is necessary).
Last time I did the entire place, I used Frankincense after the smudging as well, but the real deal (not oil) the expensive, best quality (Hojary). Got special burners and charcoal disks for all that stuff. (I used to sell it in my pagan/wicca webshop, got some stuff left over and kept some special stuff for myself)

Once had an exorcism done in a house with quite a lot of entities. The exorcist didn't do any sweetening and at the time I didn't know. Boy, was that a f*** up!!! No, the entities didn't come back, nor did others take their place, but dang, did it take us (esp me, being so friggin sensitive) a long time to recover!

Last time I used a smudgestick (I also have loose white sage) was to cleanse my aura, think 2 months ago. Had an unpleasant something in it at the back. The sage took care of it, also made me feel sick (as usual), took me some 2 hours just to recover from the shite. It works really well, esp. white sage, but boy, does it mess with my head!
