I would be surprised if muslims were the only people objecting to driving. Though 'muslim' automatically creates a more sensational story,,,,spock
those 25 Drivers need to look for another Job!
Obviously they are not cut out to be Public Drivers!
A Job in a Mosque or in a Halal Foodshop would probably be more appropriate!
Then maybe too, they could be in the wrong Country, and Pakistan,Afghanistan(Tribal Areas) or Saudi Arabia would suit them better!

I don't know how that particular cab company works, but I was a cabdriver once,, I 'leased' the vehicle with my own money and then drove around and gave the company the lions share of the fares

if I am 'leasing' a vehicle, I don't see why I should have an obligation to take whatever is available to drive

It is not like a regular job with an empoyer who hires and pays you to do a job,, it is a conractor thing where you lease equipment to earn money

I would likewise not drive a vehicle promoting a 'gay' event,,,,

That's what I say, those Guys were obviously in the wrong Job!
If one is unable to do a Job,for whatever reasons, bow out, find another Job that suits you,and let someone else handle the Job you're unable or unwilling to do!bigsmile

its not the wrong job, just the wrong place or time,,,the event isn't forever, but people will always need cabdrivers, and for those who know an area , it could be the 'right' job,,,

like lots of people might make great teachers, but decide not to work in the field in an area or time when , lets say, they have decided to have a week teaching the muslim traditions to children,,

think of all the 'strikes' that have happened, should all those people just simply looked for another job because they didn't roll over and agree to anything the employer ordered,, that type of obligation seems more like slavery to me,,,

its personal choice, lots of things happen in the 'right job',, that conflict with someones 'right values',,,,,but it doesn't mean it will last forever or that it is happening everywhere in that job,,,

and like I said, its not like cabdriving is a proper employee/employer job, it leaves much more room for choice in the first place,, choosing when to work, and where to work,,,

It's ridiculously petty. Gay individuals have as much right to advertise as anyone. Personally I'd rather drive a cab that advertises a gay event than a Muslim one. But neither would interfere with me performing the obligations of my job duties.

And the United States does nor "support" Islam. Certain Countries and certain people who worship Islam are specific enemies of this nation.

Anywhere where Muslims try to make their religion more important than respect for civil law and liberty, it is not welcome. That is not just a distinction for Muslims but for any religion. We are predominantly a Christian country, but even Christians must live within civil law.

well, everyone ha a right to like or dislike what they want... but the freedom works both ways, for muslims and gays, me you and everyone else... they have a right to protest, just as the gays have rights too...

Muslim drivers at Cleveland airport refuse to drive cabs with Gay Games advertising

Roughly 25 Muslim drivers dispatched to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are refusing to drive cabs adorned with advertising for the region’s upcoming Gay Games, citing religious reasons.

I doubt it. I'm in no way 'supportive' of gayness or gay lifestyles. I do believe that if GOVERNMENT money (also can be read 'taxpayer' money) is in any way subsidizing a business, there cant be a portion of those same taxpayers being discriminated against in the business,,

I don't believe an establishment should be 'forced' to perform any type of wedding for any type of taxpayers if government money isn't subsidizing the establishment,,,,,

and none of that has anything to do with Obama, btw,, anymore than driving a cab does,,,,laugh

I think jobs that are strictly wage are more of a slave situation where money is coming from one entity to another for specific jobs

other positions, such as commission or independent contracting where the one entity leases or uses supplies and resources of another entity, ad the customers are actually the ones to directly pay the employee,,,

have more options and choice for the one who is spending their money,,(the leasee, or independent contractor), to earn income directly from customers

Maybe that's the best way to run all muslims out of the country.

Actually, I would rather they stay as they seem to be the true Americans, ones that understand their rights and are willing to stand for them.

It is the others that remain ignorant (ignoring out of choice) that need to leave.

also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world. We respect your faith. It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans, and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah. The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab...

And I'm not a student of religion, but I don't find anything in what the principal teachings of Islam that put us in contradiction at all. In fact, the principles are the same as what—we have a diverse religious culture. But it's kindness, it's be good to your neighbor, it's love, and it's take care of children. It's all these things that—so there's no anti-Islam.

The countries which have sponsored and built this Islamic Center have for centuries contributed to the building of civilization. With their traditions of learning and rich culture, the countries of Islam have added much to the advancement of mankind. [...] Civilization owes to the Islamic world some of its most important tools and achievements. From fundamental discoveries in medicine to the highest planes of astronomy, the Muslim genius has added much to the culture of all peoples. That...

And I should like to assure you, my Islamic friends, that under the American Constitution, under American tradition, and in American hearts, this Center, this place of worship, is just as welcome as could be a similar edifice of any other religion. Indeed, America would fight with her whole strength for your right to have here your own church and worship according to your own conscience. This concept is indeed a part of America, and without that concept we would be something else than what we...

Today, March 21st, is New Years Day in much of the Moslem world. New years, of course, should be an occasion for celebration. But for the Moslem people of Afghanistan, whose country was attacked and is occupied by the Soviet Army, it is a bitter reminder of a national calamity that befell their nation more than 3 years ago. To focus the world's attention on this crime against an innocent and brave nation, we observe today the second annual Afghanistan Day.

all the above quotes,, none supporting a fear muslims/anti muslim sentiment,, were also from the president, but not THIS president

what is supposed to make the country great is freedom of religious practice, not persecution of religious choice,,,

And just what does this have to do with the topic at hand? Who cares what the Bushes, Ford, Reagan and Eisenhower thought. What does it have to do with Odumbo and gay rights or will Odumbo side with the Muslims exercising their rights.

And just how wrong you would be, this isn't a totally socialist country yet but Odumbo is working on it.

I think that the very thought of disparaging these people for standing on their rights just shows how little is understood about rights, especially those inclined to believe in democracy.

Do you have ANY idea what a hack license and medalion costs these days?

THOUSANDS! It's different in the smaller rural communities, but in the cities like Cleveland, they've run the small independents out of business!

Imagine that, using the government and licensing with taxing to support a monopoly spirit. But then this is an area the government actually has the right to regulate, somewhat, commerce.

So what you are saying is that it's ok for some to have rights but not others with the determining factor being that you approve. What a concept, oligarchy in operation in a pretend democracy within a republic.

And I find it apprehensive that anyone would have such a lack of understanding of individual rights and freedoms as to attack another because they don't rightfully agree with their beliefs and they stand up for their rights.

This apprehension is what has made these united States the country we are today, totally repulsive. And to think so many of my friends died to support freedom so the ignorant masses could so readily accept slavery as a way of life.
