The Shakespeare thread in another forum made me think of this quote...and the truth of it.

That initial spark of electricity.....I'm not talking about flings...I'm talking about long term relationships......

I find wisdom in this quote.....it has proven true for me....your thoughts?

I have to agree with the wisdom of the quote with caveats.

I have met a few, that went long-ish, but we hated each other when we met. It wasn't until months later that we became civil, and more months before we were together. Strange magic, this little thing called "love".

to answer the question, I have

Im not the one to love a stranger , I really have to love WHO they are , and I cant know that just upon sight.

I have been deeply in love thrice with the person I got to know, not with the shell I initially observed,,,

Same here.
Hate at first site, usually because they were overwhelmingly
good-looking, for some reason that always pizzed me off.

I think I attributed bad characteristics to the physically
endowed.
Often I have ended up with them.

So, I think it can be ANY kind of spark, even the disliking
kind, that can trigger the whole fire.

I have. I was in the city and received a call from a good friend. He was running late and asked if I'd go to a popular rendezvous site to let his date know that he was on his way but running late. I arrived at the spot and nobody was there so I waited. A short time later a woman I found very attractive approached and came to a halt some 20 yards from me. After a couple of minutes I asked if she was waiting for my mate but she was on another date. As we both waited we chatted on got along like a house on fire. After a few more minutes another woman arrived at the same spot the 2 women knew other and chatted. Another fella arrive and he left with the original stranger a the second woman turned out to be my mates date. A few months later I bumped into my mate in a wine bar and he was out with the same woman from his previous date. I pulled up a seat and shared a drink with them. A short while later the original woman entered the bar. She smiled as she saw me there, her previous relationship had run it's course. Her and I had 5 happy years together happy

While I agree wholeheartedly with "you have to know who they are before you love them" I guess the responses so far should make me change Shakespeare's wisdom a little bit

"Who ever loved that lusted not at first sight?"

Better??

I would guess that basically it means you just have to be open to loving everyone because how can you 'love' on sight, when your heart isn't really open to love in the first place.

That's the problem with love these days, we are all so hurt that we can't even love ourselves much less each other.

I have loved at first sight. Twice in my life, as a matter of fact. One I married and still love even though he's passed on. It wasn't just lust, but love that deepened with time. I saw him and just knew.

waving hey lake...me too....hence the thread, every man I've ever loved I loved at first sight (3)

One I'm with. now

However I'm guessing with the advent of online dating things have changed a lotbigsmile

All my loves are men I met in the RW

I met my late husband through a dating site, but the first one I mentioned, I met at work.

I remember going home that night and telling people I had met the man I was going to marry. We didn't, but we were together for ten years.

I've often wondered if it's a personality thing in that you can just let go like that, or if it's something that you have to be in the right mood or in the right place or something.

No?

I think there are many much more intelligent and romantic and sensible and knowledgeable minds than mine and what they've said about love I find quite compelling and quotable.
