Well, to each his (or her) own, I suppose...but I am one of that (apparently small?) contingency that defers to Mr. Merriam's and Mr. Webster's expertise on the meaning of words in the English language, and use words based on those meanings accordingly. Yanno, since they went to the trouble to index 'em all, alphabetically even!!!
It seems if EVERYbody just ascribed their own meanings to words based on their own personal preferences, there'd be no need for language... ...and no method by which to communicate with others, leaving us without the ability to understand one another. Oh...look at that!  |

You skimmed right over THIS post: There are absolutely no teams, and no one is better then the other. I am no "better" then say an "atheist" or any other number of different beliefs. My belief doesn't constitute me greater then anyone else. It's not about being better then another, there is NO "competition". Different people have different beliefs. Just cause someone doesn't believe as I doesn't make them any less or any worse of a person. Just makes them someone who has chosen to believe in something other then mine. |

Which are not our laws any longer nor as they "Christian" laws as Christianity wasn't around before Jesus our "Christ" came and gave us the new covenant which the Christians follow. And only seem ruthless as they are being taken out of context in the theme/point or reasoning of them being said. People in that day, in the covenant were judged by their peers on Earth during their Earthly lives. Thus the reasoning of those things being said, our God telling us how he wanted certain actions taken care of. And the only reward to sin is death. There was no "grace" in which we are saved under now. |

Hi again... :) Well, that's extremely interesting, leigh, because I, too, only see shades of grey/gray and there IS no black and white, even without the sexual reference to add a little *spark*. For me, too, it's "not necessary to always be right", but it IS paramount - for ME - that I not cleave to things which fly-in-the-face of the facts and reality; i.e., that I don't continue to be wrong once I (should) know better. I also have no desire to "always sound smarter" whether in real life OR online, but I will not dumb-it-down for others' comfort levels, either. Personally, it's rare, online, that I find myself agreeing with the majority. Ironically, in real life, it happens quite frequently. Go figure. My own personal experience with you, in only the second thread in which we'd interacted, causes me to question the validity, integrity, and sincerity of this last post to me, even IF I ignore the Hi again... :)In that thread, you paid particular attention to ME, letting me know how wrong I am to NOT use this - or any other online *dating* site - TO date others, and even went so far as to scrutinize my profile and offer up suggestions on how I should change it, all the while completely ignoring the factual built-in and automatic confines and parameters OF this site's profile-building system. You were quite emphatic about how wrong I am for participating on this site as I see fit, and were quite verbose about how right YOU are by utilizing it as YOU see fit. Factually-speaking, of course...as it IS all still there, in black-and-white. |

I think there as many reasons that people don't/wont/ believe as there are that they do believe. its necessary to really speak with and observe individuals to try to find a 'reason' behind their reasoning most atheists I have spoken to have chosen atheism simply because they have no faith and cant/wont believe anything that cant be clearly and tangibly proven to them and they often have , what I believe to be, misguided views between how a God SHOULD Be and how God is,,,,ie why would a loving God condemn people to hell or allow children to die,, or allow misery in the world,,,or how could such and such from the bible be true if SCIENCE has proven such and such,,,,,,etc,,,etc,,,etc,,, "MOST ATHEISTS YOUVE TALKED TOO? Well Im not only athiest, Im also a-leprechaunist, a-unicornist, a-hobgoblinist etc etc etc Oh wait, there are are no labels for Not believing in childish nonsense, unless its "holy", then the label atheist is applied. The Romans called christians atheists for being monotheistic, its a stupid label. The truth is, we both dont believe in 99.999% of all god stories out there, we are both atheist to all of them,I just went one god further and scored a Perfect 100% :) look up definition of atheist:a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods one cant be 99 percent atheist,, either one believes there is God or one does not,,, its nothing nonsensical about the label atheist, as a is a prefix meaning WITHOUT and theism is belief in God,, thus ATHEISM like Asexual or Amoral,,,,etc,,, we know that there is no documented evidence or claim of there REALLY Being an immortal fat men, or an egg laying bunny in contrast to the books that have existed for THOUSANDS of years from authors writing from different perspectives about the SAME events,,, its nothing like the 'nonsense' of the easter bunny or santa clause,,, Its exactly like santa claus, no evidence. If you had evidence you wouldnt need faith. I dont have faith in biological change known as evolution, anymore than I have faith 2 + 2 = 4, I UNDERSTAND BOTH BECAUSE OF EVIDENCE You need faith, because you lack evidence. The universe is too magnificent to have been created by the character in the buybull, the one that teaches how to treat slaves, Not how to abolish slavery, but how to beat them, but Not to bad that they cant get up after a couple days. Raise the bar on what we teach our little girls. Poverty doesnt stand a chance if we empower all of our little girls around the world on "How" to think, instead of "what" to think, and inspire in them an appetite for wonder and discovery instead of an appetite for divine flesh and blood:) |

(a) They value truth, reason, evidence, and believe that we should never embrace a belief without good cause. They have carefully considered the matter and don't see a cause to believe in a god. (b) They grew up in a circumstance (often a foreign country) that was not culturally dominated by a single organized religion, and raised by parents who didn't think it a priority to brainwash their kids. They just were never indoctrinated into theism, and their life experience thus far hasn't lead them to theism. (c) They have some deep objection to the values advocated by the theists in their community, and decide (mistakenly! in my opinion) that "Because these theists invoke a god to justify their bad values, there must not be a god" I'm not impressed by the people who are in category C. All theists could be wrong about god, his books, his alleged expectations of us, etc and yet there could still be a god. |

atheist's are what they are because there is no proof of god no nothing and the god that Christians for example believe in is some sort of monster who thinks paedophilia and slavery is a good thing( exodus). ( in the old testament and the new. if you are a sane and functioning person why would you need some make believe fantasy to govern your life. if you actually take the time to read the bible and look at the actual proof of science you would see the bible is all hearsay and Jesus was in two places at once doing the same thing its like the diaries of a mad man. if you look at the science there is no need to even think because the actual facts are right there for you to see touch and smell. give me real life any day Wow!
