I'm working on that resolution....... just have to find a way around it!

Here's to 2015... in case, I can't manage to find time to poke my head into this room! I think someone's going to like this...here's to you, Zee and the 2 Davids, and to everyone else.

Thanks, Zee!
It's another new year and I have to remember to write the right year on my cheques, LOL! The days and years just sort of fly..... being busy does that!
Yes, I celebrate the CHINESE NEW YEAR in February as it is a religious festival for us. It is a grand affair, and we deck out the house, all the goodies comes out, and it is feasting all around. But it is the red packets (angpows) that are the most welcomed by the kids, but burns a big hole in the adult's pockets, LOL!

I can see why the kids would like the 'red packets' drool I wouldn't say no to a few of 'em either bigsmile laugh

I was blessed at having had an Oba-chan as a kid.. she taught me some of the Asian cultures.. one year she had given me this miniature dragon on a long stick like this but hand-held size..

I never quite mastered wearing the kimono and walking on those darned wooden sandals laugh but did master the art of tea making and pouring!!! I've had a yen to visit your neck of the woods ever since... one day, I WILL  so full of history and the stories she'd tell were simply amazing!! You have a very fascinating culture! I have several different katana's in my sword collection and sculptured jade art on my walls.. plus a few other asian goodies on my shelves  one room in my basement will be dedicated solely to the orient.. fabrics, lamps, silk art etc.. yup.. she turned me onto a whole new life perspective too.. I still (obviously) remember her fondly!

like you.. gotta remember to change the dates on everything.. laugh yup.. time flies TOO quickly.. I think it has something more to do with age.. kids seem to still think time passes TOO slowly laugh

Zee..... Japanese, Koreans and the Chinese all have their origins all the way back somewhere to a common source in mainland China. There are certain similarities, in their practices and even in the written word. Great that you have some exposure to Asian cultures there. Can quite imagine you tottering around in the wooden clogs and a kimono, taking those 'dainty' steps....LOL!!!!

If you ever do make that visit.... I will be delighted to bring you around.

As for the 'ang pows' .... it is given to the youngsters and the single unmarried adults, even if they are well into their 40s and 50s. Which can be embarrassing for some of them who declines...LOL!
A typical scene during Chinese New Year during angpow giving!

The Chinese influence in 'ang pows' have spread to the other races here in Malaysia, so much so that come Hari Raya, they give 'green packets' and for Deepavali...'purple packets'....hahaha!
