As an average person, when doing an internet search, does the ranking of the website matter to you? For example, are you more likely to buy from a website that ranks number one, rather than one that ranks two, three, or four? Does the page ranking of a site give it more credibility/trustworthiness to you?

a matter of opinion, but I think it does affect how people view the site as well

I would guess that the majority of ppl would only link to sites on the first page of a search - in general ppl trust that the work has been done for them and the results are the best available - Once on a site though I think the average person is pretty ruthless in what they expect and if your site does not deliver they would be soon gone.

I would not buy from online site without checking their policies out first.

But that is me- lots do not.

I do a lot of searching and buying online due to where I live. So I always check out the site very closely. Reading all the fine print. I also go the the second page when I am searching for something specific that is where I have had better success...

I've looked as far as the 100th page but the quality deteriorates and you get porn sites...

no it doesn't matter to me.

i am more turned off by the need to wade though non or marginally related false hits on my search.

no - to me something like 3rd party ranking is bound to be agenda based. I choose the "official" sites for vendors

for research I choose sites based on pedigree :)
